in this mornings' Houston Chronicle, Sumlin quotes.."we need to examine what we're doing schematically".

this is after rushing for 31 yds yesterday. (1.3 yds per carry). also, his offense had only 8 first downs and was 19-31 for 141 yds.

similarly, West Virginia (of all teams) virtually shut down the high powered #1 Baylor offense. per the Baylor QB...."they loaded the box and pressed our receivers"

it appears that this almighty spread offense can be dismantled or near so (like we did against A&M last year). when they can't pass or get no yds after the catch of one of their "dink" passes they are dead in the water. one trick ponies.

for you guys just cryin' to adopt the spread running the football is where it's at. sure, you need a passing game too but if you can't run the football you aren't going to beat the top teams.

my point: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SCHEME LSU RUNS. our execution has been lacking but seems to be getting better.

Agree, our scheme is fine, we just need improved QB play.

ETA: And I think our guys will BOTH improve

This. It's the exact same scheme LSU ran last year when Mett, OBJ and Juice were breaking school records. Freaking rantards have a very short, myopic memory.

Part of the problem has been calling the right plays for our team. It's gotten better the last couple of weeks, but it took way too long.

He is correct. The only problem I have personally is the style of players which are recruited are not designed to run this system. Recruiting all HS spread offense players and then running primarily Power I is what frustrates many.

Agreed. One doesn't have to be a football genius to have seen the missed blocks and poor execution of the offense in general. It has been mentioned here a ton, but when whatever QB that is playing can progress to the 2nd and 3rd option while they are still open, every aspect will change for the better. The receivers are very capable of getting open, the problem is getting the QB to see them at the right time.

How do you get it when you don't let the QB throw it

When you routinely waste first downs by running up the middle

When the offense is predictable

When you don't get your QB of the future meaningful snaps

What happened when our rushing attack got bogged down against auburn?

No problem with having a great running attack. But when teams stack 8 or 9 in the box, you have to burn them. It is that simple.

Well, to be fair, like 75% of HS offenses run the spread. LSU recruits some of the most talented kids in the country, and I think it us fair to ask that they adapt.

Yeah but they aren't here anymore. We have to use the talents we got. Every time we spread people out and run up the middle it seems to get big gains. Not sure why we can't see more of that.

1. LSU does not run a "power I"

2. I don't want LSU to throw 60 times a game

3. I DO want LSU to complete more than 7 passes in a game.

4. running 51 times up the middle works against kentucky, It hasn't against miss state and auburn, and it likely won't against ole miss and bama.

There's nothing new under the sun in football. The "innovative" spread is just a variation on the Single Wing of the early 20th century. Every offense can be stopped, and every defense can be beaten. It's all about personnel and execution.

I don't lime our scheme but I understand why we use it

We just don't have a functional QB and I think despite Les' post game comments recognizes this

We run the power I with 2 TEs and overly simplistic pass plays because that is all our QBs can be reasonably expected to execute. And they barely do even that

We saw good balanced offense last year when we had a good qb

Our scheme is fine when we have a good qb. No scheme is good when we have bad qbs

I love what we want to do. I dont love how we go about trying to do it. We can run the ball and be physical and be more diverse out of different looks to help decompress the stacked boxes we see in the vaunted max protect i formation.

Get jennings on the move more. Run some zon read early. and feed the melvin.

agreed. mett did it last year. that's why LSU had a 1400 yard rusher as well.

teams would stack the box, mett would make them back off, then the running game would get going.

We ran the ball on every 1st and 10 play. There is something wrong with that.
