Back creating a made up scenario where he goes to Alabama with Nick Saban and burns LSU? How does that in anyone disprove the belittling of Mawae's coaching exeperience?

It's called a hypothetical. Have you been reading the threads? People have been saying we don't know that he can teach or coach. We don't know, but what do we know about Stud and how did we find out? The difference is we know Mawae gained some knowledge of the position in real-time at the highest level and has a desire to share it with LSU.

I hope we do get one of the NFL coaches, but between him and Sale, I would rather take a chance on him given the two experiences. However, Sale clearly has the advantage in recruiting experience.

So you have no real world experience?

In certain situations, especially high profile situations, you want your people and those loyal to you. I believe if you have a fan favorite, that gets hired, how much pressure is Miles under if he underperforms or if it just isn't a fit to keep him.

As I said before, I think he would be great, and being an LSU Alum, a great find. However, the coaching staff may not see it that way and ultimately it is Miles' decision.

It is easier just to not hire him an get someone comparable, then to invite problems. It may not be right and we may miss out on a great one, but I think this is what will happen.

It's just fodder for us. I hope no one on this board believes we can actually influence any coaching decision. I certainly don't. Miles and Cameron will hire who they believe is best. I agree with this. But all this is just interesting talk. It is a message board called the rant.

Truthfully, I'm just glad a change is being made and there is some hope of putting 1st rounders back in the NFL from LSU's o-line. That's the biggest recruiting tool there can be at that position.

Some people on here make me laugh at their backroom armchair expertise about coaches and qualifications. Many of which has never played a down of organized football beyond high school. None of which have any idea if Kevin Mawae can teach young lineman. I think most people of average intelligence know that because you have a talent, does not ensure you can teach that skill. I would be more concerned with the fact that Kevin is probably wealthy from his success in the NFL, my understanding he has a couple of daughters at home. Will he be committed & motivated enough to invest the hours necessary for todays coaches, and especially the recruiting requirements. Kevin’s credentials speak for him. Simply stating not to hire him because he has no coaching experience. Consider this- I work with a four-year starter at OL for UT. He was a year behind Reggie White and went against Reggie in every practice. He assist in coaching at the HS he graduated from. He attends coaching clinics etc. I doubt anyone on this board knows that Kevin is not doing the same.

Why does he want to coach the O line in college after all he has done?

Maybe Mawae watched the Alabama game, and thinks he can do better preparing the O Line.

No, I said just just because he was a great player doesn't make him a slam dunk for a coach. The Payton/Belichick analogy was to make my point

Those were great players that turned out to be shitty coaches? Those two coaches don't have shite to do with HOF players being shitty coaches. Lester already made the point the majority of top coaches had some level of playing experience. And your "analogy" is two Head Coaches not position coaches. Most football HOF type players want nothing to do with coaching after their playing days are over.

Which is kind of my point. Is this a job he wants because he's ready to be a full time coach or is it because he wants to be involved with football, but still stay close to his family. If he has the desire to coach at this level and put in all the time and effort that goes alon with it, great. Just wish we could have seen him prove that desire somewhere else first.

He is already involved with football. If he didn't want the added responsibilities that are required with the position he would have just kept doing what he was doing. You act as if LSU was the one to pursue him. You really think KM doesn't know what will be required of him? He previously stated that he wasn't ready but now in his mind that has obviously changed.

Some of you saying that his name alone would help with recruiting need to realize that the high school kids he we be recruiting likely don't know who he is. I bet if you asked the top OL recruits in La this year who Kevin Mawae is, maybe 10% would actually know. Yea, after talking to the recruits they will know he was a pro bowler, but its not as if these kids grew up watching him play and idolize him.

You think they know who Mario Cristobal is before they meet him? They probably only know that he is the current OL coach at Bama and what ever they google. If they google KM I am sure they will be impressed and once they meet him I have no doubt. He is very knowledgable, well spoken, and charismatic.

Without reading 20 page thread, and original misleading title aside....did he interview?

Do you even know what a center does?

He snaps the ball to the QB. What do I win? In that case, why do we need an Oline coach? Eliiot Porter will take over. Amirite?

Well then I'll hire Archie Manning and he can teach me how to be an NFL QB if that's how it works. NFL here I come

I'm guessing with your sarcastic response you seriously believe Archie would not be a good QB coach? Now he has no desire but he most certainly is more than capable. Now I am sure he couldn't make someone who does not have the skill set necessary into a quality player but have you seen his sons play?

Well if this is the standard then will you be happy if our offensive line under Mawae is "not bad"

Why must you insist on being a retard? Montana's son does not have the requisite arm strength to play the position at a major D1 university. If he did have a stronger arm he would have been recruited by everyone.

No one us crying...just interjecting due to all of the jackasses who are certain that he'll be a slam dunk hire. People are dumb and sometimes wiser people step in to help them with their baby steps. Get it?

The jackass crew has been on the anti KM side of this. Wiser = "we don't know" so we shouldn't do it. Great insight.

{Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards, anyone?}

Poor example at best. The NBA is not football!

He was maybe the best player ever, BUT never received any real coaching past college. In the NBA the head coach mostly just says "Set a screen and let Petey All-pro shoot the ball". It's 80% street ball with your best player going one-on-one with their best player. The head coach is a communicator and motivator not much else. The teams with the most and the best players go to the playoffs, it's that simple. Jordan was a failure because he never had to listen to his coaches and as a result he doesn't know how to communicate with players.

I've posted this in another thread, but this seems more appropriate.
I watched the Titans every week, and I would specifically watch Kevin on every play. Besides calling the line schemes, he would block some of the biggest, baddest NGs in the league. He would do it with technique. That's what he brings to coaching. And his intelligence and personality will be a success in recruiting.

Wouldn't you think that a former NFL player, who will in all likelihood, may get consideration for the Hall of Fame might have received enough instruction along the way that he might just be able to teach it to someone else? I'd bet that OL prospects would want to have such a person as their coach. If I'm an OL prospect, this is exactly the kind of coach that I want.

I hope we get Kevin. Cam would love to have a guy like him running the Offensive line.
