Then of course we should all be fine with that hire.

I trust Cam to know what it takes to run his offense, more than posters on the rant.

You haven't been paying attention...He has no coaching experience and probably lacks the ability to teach anyone what made him an all american and in the NFL for 16 years.

Well then I'll hire Archie Manning and he can teach me how to be an NFL QB if that's how it works. NFL here I come

Yep.

Reading between the lines, there were rumors weeks (maybe months) ago of changes going to be made...and Cam having the power to make those hires.

All I need to know is that Cam saw the need for the change, made the move, and is now making the hire. I don't care if I've never heard of the guy who is selected...I'd be very confident that we will have an upgrade at that coaching spot.

Here's a twist. When we are recruiting 5* LA players like say, Cam Robinson and selling them about how we take care of our own in Louisiana when the stay in state, what is the message you are sending these kids when LSU passes up a former LSU player of Mawae's stature to hire somebody else? That they can come back to LA for a job after they prove their ability somewhere else first?

Well two out of three of his sons won Super Bowls. You might want to pick a different example to support your argument.

LSU isn't the Salvation Army and Mawae isn't a charity case. We're going to hire the man best for the job. If that's Mawae, great. If not, also great.

I'm not sure Mawae would be that guy, having exactly zero experience with recruiting

What do you think makes a good recruiter?

I can assure you that Kevin Mawae is charismatic, genuinely interested in the youth, authentic resume, classy and respectful.

Any high school offensive lineman who doesn't know who he is and what he has accomplished isn't smart enough to attend LSU anyway.

The parents will love him. He is just that kind of guy.

I understand what you're saying but the people on here yesterday acting like anyone who mentioned KM name was a blithering idiot are looking like the idiots themselves today.
90% of the "People" you're referring to on here have never played a down of competitive football before or worn a jock strap playing any sport at any level. Mostly a collection of high shool and college kids that have a lot of free time on their hands since they don't have girlfriends.

Particularly love it when the "X-Box Experts" start spewing out their BS obout the LSU coaches making the wrong decisions about who should be starting, as if they know better.

They all think they're right too.

Same thing with this new OL coach hire. Anybody that thinks Mawae wouldn't make a great OL coach at LSU with his NFL background are 100% .

True. Well how bout this. Why is Joe Montana's son playing QB for Tulane and not some powerhouse school. Was his father unwilling to teach him how to play the position?

The magic Johnson's and Michael Jordan's of the world had a unique skill set that cannot be taught. Barry Sanders would not necessarily be a great rb coach either, because you cannot teach natural ability. Offensive line play is more about technique than ability.

Thats true but still.... learning technique or teaching technique dont necessarily correlate. He may be great at it. I, and several others here, was just trying to temper the outright certainty of people here swearing that its a no-brainer. I should've realized that same udiocy that makes them jump to kindergarten certainty would make them think i was saying he wouldn't be good at all.

LINK

Apparently he has good vision, pocket awareness, and technique. Weakness: Arm Strength.

Sounds like Joe taught him pretty well he just doesn't have an arm. He had some pretty nice offers and was the 19th ranked QB in the country.

Next....

I played football at the college level and I can promise you that there are plenty of "people" that never played the game and are more knowledgeable about it than I am.

I love when people (not you) pull out the "YOU NEVER PLAYED A DOWN OF FOOTBALL IN YOUR LIFE" arguement, as if playing 2 years of varsity football in some shithole town in Louisiana makes one a brilliant football mind.

Mawae should be given the job. His knowledge of blocking schemes and techniques would make him a homerun hire. We don't need someone with a checkered past as our line coach. I don't care if he's a relative of Coach Miles former counterpart.

Well I can tell you this. I would have a state championship ring had Kevin Mawae been my offensive line coach. Book it
