Let's look at this scenario....
KG comes back and leads LSU to the CWS title and gets a better contract that he would have this year.
Then he looks pretty smart and is happy above all.

I mean, he was the first pitcher taken. He won't improve on that. And moving up to one is unlikely. He's not a 1/1 talent unless next year's draft is down as much as this one's was, which I doubt.

I'd say even lower...he has so little room for improvement draft-wise. The team that drafts him would probably change, but that's about it.

I see his stock actually going down if he returns next year as a more likely possibility than his stock going up. He gets hurt or has a bad couple of outings and he could drop even farther in the draft. I haven't looked at next year's projected first rounder, but while Gausman is a first round talent, he could get passed up by two or three arms, which, depending on a team's need, could see him drop 10 spots in the draft.

Only thing I can think is he could get drafted by a different team with an owner willing to pony up more guaranteed money; otherwise, I seriously doubt he comes back.

Even if KG comes back and has a sub par year, he still is a top 10 pick on talent alone. The only risk, albeit a big one, is injury. The smart and usual choice here is to take the money now, but he's not an idiot if he comes back.
