Guard starts at the top. Takes two dribbles to the rim and gets our defender on his hip with ease. Helpside comes to the rim from the corner three spot to stop penetration. Guard kicks out to a wide open corner three.
Every team with decent guards do that to us over and over again. We are not quick enough at the point of attack to stay in front and disrupt the offense, especially when we were missing Manning
I'm guessing they don't do a lot of these in practice...

What is Wade doing?
He saw a problem and tried to fix it like a good coach should but it backfired. Teams saw it and took advantage of it. Teams were killing LSU shooting three so maybe he wanted Watford out there with his length to try to get a hand in the face or finger on the ball. He probably thought Days and Williams could do enough rebounding underneath to keep LSU from getting killed on the glass.
It didn't work. Time to slide Watford back under the rim. Manning is back and Jumpy McJumpers looks healthy so maybe they can help out with the weak arse perimeter defense

Teams have less luck when defended well.

Holy shite how is that even possible
Every team has shot well at 3 against us this year. Only constant is LSU, so our D is why it's possible lol.

lousy defense on the ball?

He definitely did not say that. When Chris Blair stated the 3 point stat, he immediately said we had a lot to do with that.

Terrible defense is how. It looked like our defenders were playing Base Ket Ball and were slinger south park jokes at them instead of actually staying an inch or two off someone. I kept screaming move your fricking feet.
Javonte Smart would not play another minute for me if I was the coach until he committed to playing defense. He is fricking terrible on the defensive end and isn’t much better on the offensive side. Yeah he will get you 10 points game but he’s a point guard that literally refuses to pass the ball to wide open team mates on the perimeter. I think he had one assist last night. Until Javonte stops playing hood ball we ain’t winning shite.

The slashing guards kick outs are impossible to cover. We had plenty of these kick out open shots. The difference was that they scored, we didn't. Until we get a Chris Jackson type 3 point shooter the results will be the same.

Our guards refuse to kick the rock out. As evidence by the 11 block Kentucky had on Javonte driving to the basket or Skyler driving and turning it over. I would be interested to see a stat on the amount of times Javonte’s shot gets blocked driving to the basket. Which essentially amounts to another turnover with his other bone headed plays.

I watched for a while. It seemed like Kentucky would easily hit their jump shots and grab offensive and defensive rebounds while LSU couldn't make a shot to save their lives, let alone grab an offensive rebound. We had a few second and third chance shots that could have made a difference but they couldn't capitalize on the opportunities.

How about this stat? 11 blocks. That changes a shooters perspective every time he wants to shoot. I am sure they were all clean blocks.

So much for that analytics philosophy that they are gonna miss most of their 3's, play f#$king defense and defend the whole court.

Who was he supposed to guard last night? You going to put Days on a 3?

We shot over 50%, had the same number of offensive boards, and out rebounded them by 12 so you don't know what you were watching

I saw someone mention Wade has stated that roster limitations have guys guarding out of position.

What game were you watching? Smart had 7 assists last night. He didn't have a good offensive night, but he had 7 assists and 7 rebounds at least.

The issue was LSU's shooting. They had 23 offensive rebounds (which is a ton) and out-rebounded a much taller UK team by double digits. LSU's shooting was bad even when they weren't getting blocked. A team like UK makes Williams a non-factor on offense and that hurt because he only scored 5. Against much taller guys, he has to have a jump shot.
Posted on 2/19/20 at 8:30 am to Madking
Agreed. The UK guards were just blowing right past him. Like 6/8 possessions in a row it ended up with Watford at the top. Calipari saw that matchup and kept finding ways to utilize it.

We shot over 50%,
We shot 39% for the game. If they would have shot their normal % from the field, they would have won. UK had a lot to do with that though with their blocks. They are a great defensive team with their blocks.

It’s honestly fricking amazing that they shot that well, we only shot 70 from the line, and it was only a 3 point game. Shows you what could happen if we played even average defense.
