Sage was a spectacular punt and kick returner in HS. That doesn't always translate to college, I know.

Considering how good LCA’s defense was he had plenty of punt returns. I don’t know if he’d be better but I do know he has a lot more experience in-game than Malik and probably more comfortable fielding punts but I’m not at practice to know.

Once an athletes starts thinking about something that has come natural to them for so many years, things get weird. It goes from muscle memory to "Oh man I have to catch this ball coming down right now. I hope I don't mess up again. And I hope those dudes running at me full speed don't light my arse up!"

The yips and fumblitis are very real.

Either keep Malik and see how he does these next two weeks. Or we can go Boutte to get him as many touches as possible.

I’d be fine with him staying at KR, but he has the yips at PR

The only saving grace on the KR is that he didn't drop the ball. Otherwise, he looked totally uncomfortable returning kicks. He was hesitant while slowly looking for defenders/running lanes vs a guy who was decisive and fast.

Returning kicks isn't easy. It takes a certain mindset and natural ability. On every kick and punt he was clearly unsure of himself.

agreed. idk how he did in practice, but he had zero confidence doing it in a game. should have never let him try to catch the second punt.

Kick him 1 million balls this week and let that pure athlete house some kicks

No, he can stay at kick returner, on the punt team you have to go with someone else who is more reliable.

I’d like to see what Boutte can do as a returner

This is what I was thinking. It's definitely a way to get and keep Kayshon engaged in the game and will probably translate into better all around effort.

For crying out loud, just put Bech back there and be done with it. We’ve been successful in the past with someone who’s reliable and not particularly dynamic, ie Chad Jones.

Hypotherical: On the road at Auburn, up by 3 4th quarter under 5 minutes left. We stop Auburn on their 45. 4th and 6. They decide to punt. Who do you want back there fielding the punt?

Someone new. 2 drops in one game is enough for a season

He has bad habits/form when catching kicks. Gonna take a lot of time to really fix that. Let him just catch passes

I still want to believe the blinding arse lights in the dome had a lot to do with it.. if you aren’t use to that you can lose the ball easily! Those lights are dang near like q beams shining in your eyes and then there are bare spots where you will lose focus of the ball!

Catching punts isn't hard. The hard part is blocking out the fact that you have gunners bearing down at you at full speed to blast you and you can't look down to see how close they are going to be once you catch the punt. I used to return punts in HS. I've also had 90 MPH fastballs coming at my head. Catching punts is a lot scarier.

Not reading all so sure it’s been said - OP dumbest shite I’ve seen in a while. Sure he’d probably be fine, but why take the chance.

1 ok cbk did right by leaving him in...2??? Then he says immediately after the game he needs to re evaluate the pr position and I agree. 2 muffed punts on the big stage and bright lights and you gotta come out idgaf if you Devin hester

I actually tend to agree. They gave him the role for a reason. At the very least put him back there vs Southern, see how he does, and then decide next week.

Holy shite... you do realize a HC job is to lower the risk of a play going badly, right?
Like not running a toss play on the goal line when youre trying ice the game. Like not putting someone at PR that has ,multiple times, fumbled the fair catch.

I'm sorry but he could NEVER be trusted in a big game again. Not trying to be mean knowing how hard that position is to play. Let him redeem himself as a WR or in a blocking role.
