calhouns is a restaurant, not a bar, so yes. but you'll still need an ID to drink unless you have someone there to buy drinks for you

Well hopefully if a lot of LSU fans are there we can work that out. But other than that our best pregame option is Circle Park? And are there any other post-game places we can go?
Posted on 10/11/11 at 9:43 pm to Cap Crunch
i wouldn't just go to circle park. you kind ahave to know someone. it isn't like the grove where a ton of people set up. knoxville tailgating is pretty spread out. circle park and fraternity row are the best set ups and have the biggest congregation of people outside the parking garages, but there isn't one specific area where everyone goes. most people go to the bars and fraternity tailgates after the game, but you can get into any of the bars before 10 PM because they're also all restaurants. so in essence, if you just stay there all night, you'll be able to be in the bar past 10 PM, just don't plan on leaving and getting back in.

Do you know how late the Knoxville Area Transit runs? That is how we are planning getting to and from our hotel. Is there a different schedule on gameday?
Posted on 10/11/11 at 9:47 pm to Cap Crunch
couldn't tell you. i think the trolley from downtown stops running around midnight. if you're staying downtown, you can walk there from campus. there's also cabs that wait at a couple bars on the strip late night, and they're not they're not that expensive, especially if you have a group of 4 or whatever (prob 5-7 bucks a person to go as far as west knoxville)

I'll be staying in a hotel on I40 east of knox...is there a particular exit/route that I should take into campus to avoid some of the congestion or should I just get there early and plan to stay a while after the game?....
Posted on 10/11/11 at 9:51 pm to lsufball19
Well that might work cause we are staying in West Knoxville. Thanks for all the help.
Where are you planning on going before? If we run into you we may have a beer for you for the help.
And I have this thread bookmarked if I have anymore questions so look out for it.

get there early, but 387 (17th street) is the best exit to take IMO. believe it's 387A, but any of them will be fine. getting into campus isn't that big a deal, it's getting out that's a pain in the arse

to be completely honest, i'm a UT grad but a lifelong LSU fan (been getting shite for it forever now) but I'll be at my fraternity house (SigEp) before the game and the bars after.

ok, sounds fine...it is a day game, so would it be reasonable to bring a small grill and expect to do a little grilling and relaxing while waiting for the traffic to clear?....

yeah that's what we always do. depending on where you park, it's pointless to try to leave right after the game because you're gonna be in traffic for an hour regardless. but seeing as this might be a blowout, it might not be too bad, haha

I live here and travel to BR most game weekends so I can get you around this place.
Calhouns is ok not great but you are locked in and you cant just walk across the street to another bar or move once you are there nothing in the area and bar service can get overwhelmed and crowded S L O W S E R V I C E
Parking is a pain but park downtown it is very walkable, market square has more than dozen bars/rest one block over gay street will have the downtown pub and brewery and a few others, going south on gay street away from the stadium will take you into the old city, the Irish place Sullivans is closed but Barleys & few new english pubs and dance clubs in that area. The strip will be the oppisite direction but closer to the stadium still walking distance you can jump on the trolly and head the 1/2 mile to the strip it has a few bars on it, OCI is closed but Tin roof is there and Hanna's and roaming gnome and copper cellar,
Friday night i would hit cool beans off the strip roaming gnome college age but if age 25+ I would go 1 mile west hit a beer joint called Bearden Beer Market cool cheep place play gay corn hole or go block away and hit toddys on Kingston pike across from kroger horse shoes and old style on draft, plus 200 more beers, early afternoon on friday its great (bring cash) I might be there with a blue tick coon hound with an lsu bandanna on just to piss off the natives, you can eat great sushi across the street at NAMA , going further west to Roosters bar and Tin Roof on Northshore drive are both great & across from each other.
Dinner I would hit Bistro on northshore, or many of the places in mkt square you cant go wrong if your down town.
Tailgating can be done with a little planning. I have access to a parking lot of probably 15 spaces we could lock that up and have an arse kicker of a tailgate 1 block off the strip and its level not one of the hilly lots.
Beer on campus or in a cup on a side walk & you are wearing LSU gear the cops will ticket you a coozy will not save you, if your in a parking lot off campus no problems but cops can be dicks in knoxville.
I will whip together a google map and link it in the morning of all the places so you can have an idea of the geography and distances.

cracker, OCI's original location closed, but the same bar reopened where the old Chilis was on the strip if you weren't aware

We are making the trip up there and Saturday is a friend of mine's 21st birthday and she really wants to go to a good Mexican place to celebrate (and get some tequila ) . Any suggestions??
Also, we want to go out to the bars at some point but all of us are not 21, can we still get in places if you are under 21?? I heard all of the bars are 21 and up....
Hit soccer taco in mkt square for tequila you can show them an id and they will look at it they cant count. After the game hit the Gnome

very good question...sounds like they are a little stricter than LSU, so I am even questioning whether I should do the zip loc thing or not....
