Watched her play in the FIBA World Cup last night. She looked very good, very athletic with quick feet even guarding smaller faster players and having to constantly switch in 3 x 3. She’s stronger and quicker with no fat and in great shape, showing great condition for the fast-paced 3 x 3 game.
She blocked every shot in sight in both games even against girls her size. She also had some good post moves and finished at the basket. She showed a nice and soft and accurate midrange jumper as well. She didn’t drop a single pass.
I’m very encouraged. She’s been putting in the work. The 3 x 3 game is great for her. LSU will have outstanding rim protection this year with Koval, Grace Knox, Noa Morro, and Lay, who’s constantly blocking shots in every game in FIBA. I understand Laila Reynolds and Lampley can swat shots as well. And when we add Minaeva, rim protection should be out of this world.
To think not long ago LSU had little rim protection. Do you know that Flau’ Jae is second in the WNBA in blocked shots?
MK and and Lay are dominating 3 x 3 as well. I think MK has been the leading scorer every game, and she’s in great shape. Looks even stronger. I’ve seen both MK and Lay make game-winning shots. There are times when they both just take the game over against good competition. They work very well together, and you can see that they’re having fun playing together. Lord willing, everyone stays healthy, and LSU should have a very special season next year.

3x3 is a totally different game

I think she needs to work on her coordination and making easy baskets on rebounds. There is no reason to miss a shot right under the basket.

I have to agree with you on the putbacks. But I didn’t see coordination as an issue or the tendency to bring the ball down low. I see some big improvement overall.

Even this season, she was a shot-blocking machine for LSU when she was in.
Block leaders for LSU last season.
MiLaysia Fulwiley - 796 minutes, 50 blocks.
Kate Koval - 581 minutes, 43 blocks.
Flau'jae Johnson - 882 minutes, 25 blocks.
Amiya Joyner - 711 minutes, 23 blocks.
If you look at minutes played, Joyner had 20 fewer blocks in 130 more minutes played. And Fulwiley played 215 more minutes than Koval, with 7 more blocks. Fulwiley had those quick hands that led to most of her blocks.

This right here is a constant issue in the women's game.

Style, yes...but it's still basketball for gods sake. Some of yall just have to give your negative comment

Koval came into a new environment in the toughest conference in the country as a true sophomore. She played very good defense , was a good shot blocker, and a competent rebounder. She needs a better offensive game on the block and must eliminate missing put backs. She also must be permitted to shoot from the elbow; she has an excellent touch for a big. She is a good player.

Agree totally. Good analysis. The few times she shot from the elbow last night she swished them in easily, and the announcers said nobody realized that she could do that. She also put up the shots quickly and easily.

Thanks goldenmoment. The woman shot almost 80% from the free throw line. Get that 10-15 footer in the offense Kim.

She needs to not set up dribble under the goal wayyyy too many turnovers doing that
