But the ball was on the way up AFTER IT HIT THE RIM away from the basket not a downward trajectory into the net for a score.
"Goaltending. (Rule 9-17.5). When the ball contacts the backboard and any part of the ball is above the rim on a field goal attempt, it is considered to be on its downward flight. In such case, it is goaltending when the ball is touched by a player as long as it has a possibility of entering the basket."
THE BALL WAS NOT ON DOWNWARD FLIGHT. KB-W tipped it, it hit the backboard and bounced in.

quote:It still never left the cylinder. What happened after he touched the ball (that was clearly inside the cylinder) is irrelevant. The goaltending violation happened at the moment he touched the ball, irrespective of what happened after. We got lucky. It happens. I'm glad we won. I'm just here for the debate.

It wasn't goaltending by LSU. Goaltending is a defensive foul.
I was confused at first because Dickie V kept saying goaltending.
The tip in wasn't goaltending because it was by LSU player.

View from the floor
The ball is clearly traveling directly away from the basket when it is tipped. No ref in his right mind would call that goal tending! There is zero chance that ball was on he rim.
What you are seeing in these above the rims stills is his follow through pushing the ball back.
When he initiated contact the ball was flying away from the rim and well beyond the rim.
Refs don’t sit above the rim they see it from the floor.

I said what I said because "offensive goaltending" is: ]"commonly confused with the related violation of basket interference (also called offensive goaltending) which occurs during an attempted field goal when a player touches the basket, the rim, or the ball when it is on the rim or directly above it."
K B-W wasn't goaltending.

There were many no calls of balls in the cylinder through the game.

Whole goal shook
The original shot would have gone in if the basket had not been interfered with at both the backboard and the rim.

.THIS IS GOALTENDING......
I'm not 100 percent certain but I believe by rule part of the ball can be in the cylinder and be touched if the ball is clearly going away from the cylinder. This ball was clearly bouncing away from the cylinder. Even if that is wrong and for those who still want to argue, there is this, which is clearly goaltending. If the goal, backboard or net are touched while shot is in the air it is goaltending. Regardless how you look at it the right team won the game.

What seemed to be missed by many people is that it really doesn’t matter where the ball is when the goal starts shaking, only if it is shaking or not when the ball makes contact with the backboard and/or rim. The goal was clearly shaking when Mays shot hit the backboard and was still shaking when KBW tipped in the shot.
