field turf is so much nicer than grass. its pretty much standard at texas high schools now,

I disagree.......nothing can beat a well hydrated and maintained natural surface for 1 game.

i think the only drawback with field turf is that it can get hot

It also produces more injuries.

so many fans love tradition. i'm glad they're excited that we'll keep our horrible field tradition up this year

We have well placed away games this year, so no, the field will not be shitty. It's awesome right now, and when it gets torn up these first two games, it will be repaired by the time the UF game rolls around.

is there any sort of justification for this?

old turf? yes. playing on concrete was really bad on bodies

i haven't heard anything negative about injuries with field turf

I actually believe poor grass field is way more prone to causing injuries than field turf.

I read something that new field turf seems to produce more severe injuries, but I don't think it was a statistical analysis.

Real surfaces have the ability to give way when making cuts, etc........the roots and sod are thrown around for a reason.....

I don't have any valid data to back this up...just makes more sense since field turf can't give way.

there is none. People hear the word turf and automatically use this as their argument. I read an article a few years ago saying that it reduces injuries but I have no way of finding the article. I read it about the time the Saints first installed it.

field turf does give. that's why they put all the sand and rubber to simulate dirt in it

i just read a study that showed field turf had a lower % of injuries, but the FT had limited data so it could be wrong

but i did just read that the concussion risk of FT > grass (it's similar to old turf). that ain't the injuries people are referring to

You can simulate all you want, and it is designed to simulate this......that is the claims of field turf advocates.......I'm sitting next to a PT who lives in Zachary........they just got the new field turf at the school.......he states there has been improvement in that area but no valid data to prove it.

Then you really shouldn't make such a definitive statement.

More concussions is serious deal......anything with concrete under it can't be as natural.....sorry.

I do think within next 15 years something will be developed that will be better than natural though.

"well, the footing was a little treacherous tonight. b/c of that Charles Scott and interior runs was our best chance at consistently moving the chains."

see a correlation?

True sir, I shouldn't but I just don't think it exist yet. It's such a new technology that the data doesn't exist so until then you have to believe that Natural is your best bet until proven otherwise.

it would be a big deal if that many concussions occurred from slamming heads into the ground

it may not be natural

there is nothing that says natural > technology though

I don't think the field will be an issue tonight unless BR gets slammed with a good 1-2 inches hours before kickoff........this Tropical moisture hasn't really been pouring down so the field has more than adequete time to drain.....now if it starts raining during the game.........consider the field officially fricked.......

Current futurecast have it clear over BR as of 3pm.
