Of Note:
-Texas brings a blitz just about every single play. Whether it be a safety or corner they are coming. If Joe can recognize the blitzes he will feast.

-UT claims they "shut down" tech until the 4th quarter when it was already a blowout. That just isn't true. Tech was able to move the ball down the field pretty consistently. Missed a field goal on their first drive. Were moving the ball on their 2nd and 3rd drives to have a sack and fumble derail each of those, respectively. Then missed a wide open touchdown after a long drive and ended up missing another field goal. They also had an unlucky deflection end up getting intercepted.

-To start the 3rd quarter Tech got a tough break on a 4th and 1 on UT's 25 after driving down the field. The ball was caught at the line to gain and marked short. Call really could have gone either way. Then the ensuing drive missed an open receiver on a 4th and 5 at the UT 35 - just a bad throw.

-The tech D seemed over matched but Amik Robertson is a stud. When Ehlinger targeted him UT did not have much success.

-That said there were two coverage busts that UT got two long touchdowns on. Both times DB's were looking at each other with their hands up a la Jalen Mills vs UGA in 2013. Don't expect LSU to run much soft cover 2 tho.

-UT dominated, don't get me wrong. But not nearly as bad as the score would make you think. Tech should easily have scored at least 24. That 4th and 1 call goes their way and maybe they put up 30. Instead they missed so many opportunities and ended up getting blown out.

My thoughts: if LSU can stay ahead of the chains then Joe will absolutely feast with the quick passing/screen game. If not, our o-line will have to deal with a lot of stunts, twists, and exotic blitzes and I'm not that confident in their ability to communicate that as a unit just yet. Defensively the only things that worry me are:
1) Collin Johnson who is an animal (6'6" 215) - he made a couple of great catches and nearly came down with a 1 hander over Amik Robertson who was in perfect position. He will do something crazy that pisses us off no doubt.
2) Ehlinger extending plays. When he gets outside the pocket he makes things happen with his feet and his arm. I'm way more confident in our pass rush than years past but if we get outside of our rush lanes and/or don't have a spy he can torch us.

I've got LSU by 10.

If you noticed, Blitzing is about the only way they can get pressure.

And they still struggled.

Great, Burrow's going to feast!

Not true. They did not struggle to get pressure. The ball was out of Smith's hands quickly on almost every play. And when he did sit back he was either getting hit or knocked off his mark.

1 sack and zero QB hurries is struggling against Tech. I dont care how you slice it. Especially if they were blitzing every down.

They got hurries on every drive. I don't know what stats you're looking at but from watching the game that is wrong.

Great writeup.

It comes down to Burrow getting the ball off quickly and not turning it over or giving up sacks.

Not true, again, I even just watched the first half and saw a few play action pass plays and times where he threw the ball downfield holding onto the ball for a few seconds. IT wasn't always a quick pass, Texas just couldnt really pressure him

Jacob Hester and company said earlier 1 sack and 1 hurry, so I guess they got it wrong.

You must be watching a different game.

If they blitz like that, then LSU RB's will feast in the screen game. Something I never thought I would say in this lifetime.

Definitely wouldn’t mind having Amik on this team. He’s a baller

You're taking a sample size and merely over stating it. Agian, just watched the first half and saw a number of play action and deeper pass play from Tech. Those are not "quick passes" hence they were not "always throwing the ball quick". Because they do it 60% of the time doesnt mean they do it 100% of the time.

Very impressive player. Almost got a pick guarding Johnson, who is like 17' taller than Robertson. Baller indeed.

And if UT didn't fumble at tech's 30 yard line on their second drive, and if texas rushers didn't trip o err themselves and run into the QBs foot during a pick 6, then the score would also be different. If you're playing the could woulda shoulda argument then you need to do it for both sides.
