He still hasn't learned how to look off defenders and work threw his progressions and when he does, he gets paranoid and looks confused.

FWIW, there are some pro QBs that can't look defenders off too. They don't start and for good reason.. Looking off defenders isn't all that common in college, especially since an athletic qb is more valued in college than in the pros.

You beat me to it. People get spolied watching pro qbs, especially the upper tier guys.

He probably won’t ever be a passer like Jamarcus Russell.

Not sure if serious...

OF COURSE HE'S NOT JR or ever will be.

Simon will be a beast. The last great tall CB that I can remember is Bobby Taylor. He played for Notre Dame and the Philadelphia Eagles. He had a very long career.

U must have forgot about Antonio Cromartie from FSU

So we should start JJ due to this obviously lacking ability?

Let's say JL can look off defenders. Does he get the nod for that one thing? I don't think any of our QBs look off defenders, tbh.

First off, you guys have to remember that JJ only had the first string offensive line, backs and receivers on his team. They were going against the second and third teamers. No blitzing! Like that is a ton or pressure when you are fighting someone with one of his hands tied behind his back. Ti be fair, even some of the completions were off target. Timing is everything, not saying that some receivers weren't open, but by the time that he stared them down and made his decision, the defense closed the gap and made some plays, But he looked in great shape and a step faster. If he could catch, they could move him to tight end where he would have a better chance to play at the next level.

No one thinks JJ is a better passer than Lee or Mett, at least I hope no one is that stupid. You must factor in the entire package with JJ including his rushing. His decisiveness and speed looked much improved imo. His passing looked better too until his throwing hand was hit by Maclin. Everyone needs to step off the ledge. JJ is MUCH, MUCH better than many on here give him credit. He's also not nearly as good as his fanboys on here want you to believe. 2009 JJ passing + 2010 JJ rushing = 2011 LSU SEC Champs. Have faith, it's going to be a good year.

So you can show micro-statistics to exhibit improvement, but you can't show them to criticize?

taking a small sample set from one particular game is not valid.

It's like taking one specific game that Tommy Hodson had less than stellar numbers in and using those stats to stake your opinion that he wasn't good.

Disclaimer: Hodson is my favorite LSU QB of all time...I was just trying to prove a point.

I think this can be argued.

Lee throws a prettier ball. I don't think that makes him a better passer.

Then you just want to argue, which is fine. It is a message board after all.

Maybe.

Lee's footwork is probably the worst I've ever seen in college QBs. It takes a substantial toll on his passing ability.

Neither are good passers, but I'm not sure Jefferson is the worst of the two.

And JJ has one of the longest, ugliest windups I've ever seen which completely eliminates the chance to throw slants and screens effectively.

True but the original poster used the Spring game to make the point that he thought JJ had improved.

As far as the poster who thinks JJ is a better passer than Lee. Come on everybody knows I loathe watching JJ impersonate a qb but I really cant believe after watching both of them throw someone would argue that JJ is a better passer. Not saying Lee is a great passer but much better than JJ. Like JJ27 said because of JJ's windup it eliminates some pass plays!

Right.

And yet, I'd still prefer that to a QB that puts too much air under the ball because he is throwing off his back foot.
