re: Jump around video

The conflict is that the Jump Around deal always occurs between the 3rd and 4th quarter...as does the Tiger Band playing pre-game. Two traditions...done at the same time. Nobody is at fault really.

No offense to Wisconsin fans, but "Jump Around" is lame and unoriginal.
Exactly. Why can't they do something that no one else does, like neck.

LSU had the same length video. The team didn't wait for it to end, they just went out. That's their fault.
Yep. The same things always happens in Tiger Stadium too. Miles leads the team out before the into video is finished.

Another example of clock mismanagement

Yah, it was fair. My only complaint was the fact that "Jump Around" was played when the Golden Band was trying to play. Wish they would have communicated better so both fan bases could take part in their traditions.
Not entirely true.. Midway through the Jump Around, the Golden Band started playing to get the LSU fan base fired up stealing the thunder. I'd give props to the band, that's how I saw it

I hope LSU is whipping Wisconsin at the start of the 4th quarter in Lambeau Field so the outnumbered LSU fans can Jump Around and rub it in. Will be epic.

Doesn't wiscy say something vulgar during basketball games.

I sat in wisky section
Had a blast doing Jump with their fans
They were really excited to see a fan of another school joining in the fun

I don't get the big deal. People have been talking about this being played in the stadium for 2 days.. Why? I don't get it.... Why not talk about every other song played at every other tv time out?

I sat in the Wisconsin section & when we did something wrong, the chant was "you f**ked up". So I wouldn't doubt it happens during basketball games. I took some shite, but all in all, wasn't bad sitting with them.

Damn BuckyBadger!!! So much tradition to jump up and down when the song "jump around" is played. Glad y'all invented it.
Not like every kid over the age of 2 hasn't jumped up and down when the Cypress Hill song came on the radio since 1992, but I'll let you think that Wisconsin fans "invented" jumping up and down when a hype song that tells you to jump up and down with the lyrics..... fricking brilliant. I mean NO ONE would ever jump up and down during that song if the awesome folks of Madison wouldn't have thought about it.
Love me some original tradition

They played the crappy piped in music over the LSU band way too often. Someone should have pulled the plug on that stuff. If Wisconsin chose not to bring their band that is their problem.

Many traditions are simple and seem obvious, yet no one did them before. We started doing it in 98, so everyone had plenty of time. What is so great about running a buffalo around or singing a song (rocky top).
SI had a traditions tournament and jump around won it. I think internet voting proves little beyond fan support, but that had nothing to with being one of the top 16.
Lastly, jump around is significantly better when it is the majority of the stadium and Camp Randall is swaying.
From the NYT:
That is when the 80,000-plus fans at Camp Randall Stadium traditionally leap up and down in unison while the 1992 House of Pain song “Jump Around” blares over the sound system and the press box sways.
“The stadium definitely shakes,” said Mike Oliva, a Wisconsin engineering professor who has studied Camp Randall’s movement. “People in the upper deck tend to feel like the motion is anywhere from 2 inches to 10 inches.”
There are plenty of rowdy stadiums in college football — the din from a Louisiana State game in 1988 registered on a local seismograph and the press box above Texas A&M’s Kyle Field moves when the students link arms and sway during games. But perhaps no stadium rocks more than Wisconsin’s Camp Randall, thanks to a tradition that grew from a marketing employee named Kevin Kluender who spontaneously pushed the play button on “Jump Around.”
“I would love to tell you it was the result of months of market research and focus groups, but it just kind of happened,” said Kluender, who is an assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions. “And that’s a reason it’s still so popular: it wasn’t scheduled or planned.”
The phrase “Jump Around” now appears on Wisconsin T-shirts and is such a part of Wisconsin’s identity that its fans become ornery when other universities attempt to adopt the phrase and the jumping that comes with it. When Kluender’s fiancée moved to Madison, she ordered a “Jump Around” credit card and impressed the credit union employees by telling them that her future husband started the tradition.
But Kluender said the tradition officially became a phenomenon in 2003 when Pat Richter, then the athletic director, asked him before the home opener against Akron not to play the song. Camp Randall was under construction, and there was concern that the shaking could be dangerous.
Students were livid when the song did not come on between the third and fourth quarter. Some turned their backs to the field, and Kluender recalled that the focus became more about why the song was not played than the game itself. Calls, letters and e-mails flooded the news media and the athletic department, and a quick safety study was conducted. Soon, Chancellor John D. Wiley announced that “Jump Around” could be played the next week.
“It rose to the point where the chancellor of Wisconsin had to put out a press release about a 1990s song that our fans are attached to,” Kluender said. “It made me laugh that it rose to that level. It was played the following week and ever since.”

You don't have to prove to us that it's cool. If you think it is, then I guess it is, but that could happen at any stadium. It doesn't make Wisconsin unique. Nothing about it is unique to your university, or your culture. As the other guy said, anybody in the English speaking world can identify with "Jump Around," and, at one point in their lives, has jumped up and down to the beat. It does nothing to make a person say, "Wow, Wisconsin is really cool and unique." Probably the opposing fans in Camp Randall were jumping up and down also, just as fervently, on that fateful night.
Only Tennesseeans know and love "Rocky Top" because of the Appalachians. Only Louisianians know how to properly pronounce "Geaux," because of our state's French roots. Only Alabamians think the houndstooth pattern is cool, because of their history with Bear Bryant. I'm sure the University of Wisconsin has better traditions that more accurately reflect your culture than "Jump Around."
