No he's not.

Coaches will always lean on players they trust. Williams has proven over the course of 2 seasons he is trustworthy to make every play the coaches ask of him. Whether it is running the ball, catching out of the backfield, or blocking. Williams helped carry LSU to a win vs. Arkansas in 2022 when the rest of the offense could do very little. He was great against Florida that same year, and made HUGE game winning plays vs. Alabama. The 3rd down run late when he dragged a defender for a 1st down is one. He also threw the freeing block to spring Daniels for the TD in OT. Coaches don't forget that.

Jackson will get his share of touches though because he possesses something Williams doesn't...the ability to take any carry for a huge gain. And there may be games (hopefully will be games) where Jackson takes over and becomes the bell cow. But Williams is unlikely to be relegated to just "situational" duty. He's proven his value time and time again.

Williams is also an absolute savage when it comes to blocking.

the chances Jackson takes a substantial leap forward are greater than Williams.

I am just hoping the run game has more to it than Inside Zons.

Jackson, the freshman then Williams in that order is how I think it will shake out. Jackson will have over 1,000 yards this season

Jackson has all of the potential in the world and could become the feature back next year, but Williams should contribute a lot. He is just a really good football player. He was hurt last year, but the year before, he was huge in a number of games for us (especially in the back half of the season). He averaged over 7 ypc against Bama and had that big TD in the win against them.

Kaleb has the potential to be that HR back that teams fear though.

The Back who protects Nuss best and can contribute will get most of the plays, IMO.
Williams has been superb in that role.
If Jackson can meet that criteria he will probably get most of the playing time because of his physicality and speed.

Jackson has more talent, but Williams is smarter. Great pass blocker and reliable dump off guy. They both have a role.

The guy who knows the play book better and makes the least mistakes will start. The OL should be really outstanding. You don’t need a phenom to run behind that OL.

You start the guy who presents more problems for a defense and that’s Jackson. Williams is a great complimentary player but nobody’s dropping an extra man in the box or adjusting coverage matchups to defend him.

This is a legitimate point.

What we don't know right now is how either RB will be used in the passing game scheme.

I also don't think this is an either or matchup and to do so is a slight on 2 dudes that we know work their tails off to be on the field. History says RBs with different skillsets when effectively managed, can be an advantage.

I would like for LSU to pound Jackson and use Williams when Jackson needs a breather. Jackson could be the best in SEC if used correctly and the Oline delivers like we all are hoping. Defenders are going to get real tired of trying to tackle Jackson.....pound him this year.
