PM said today. I know its not surprising, but still a bummer.

I think the better idea would have been to announce after hoover that we expected him back for regionals, to sway the committee

They aren’t going no where this year so let him get back strong for next season.

Seems premature; I agree with the OP his status for the regional should be left open.

If we don't win at least one, preferably two, in the SECt, selection day is going be stressful.

How many AB's did he have this year? Could he redshirt?

Is this something that can continue to flare up the rest of his career?

Doesn't matter. He is draft eligible after next season and is almost certainly a goner.

LSU is squarely on the bubble. Lose Tuesday and see what happens

44 RPI as of today and .500 conference record?

It fricking blows that after all the hype surrounding Smith, lead off batter, next in line of great Tiger SS's, blah blah blah...he only played 6 games.

Mainieri has never been known for playing those types of mind games.

We're not out of it yet

Beat MSU and we're likely in.

Go any further and we should feel confident.

I know he is usually brutally honest, but it may have helped our cause

Good question. I don't recall ever seeing an actual diagnosis or a good explanation of his medical condition,

I thought that didn't matter when you played, just the amount of time you played...

I recall Michael Reed pitching in a random midweek game in 2009 or 2010, then he transferred and had his year at LSU considered a redshirt year.

No shite, but if for whatever reason he doesn't get drafted high enough next year, or the year after that...

This is in today’s Advocate. Seems strange to me.

Advocate

quote:

Mainieri has said in recent weeks that the issue is related to Smith's back muscles not being conditioned for the stress of swinging a bat or fielding ground balls. Smith has endured spasms and tightness every time he has tried to return to the field.
