I'll take the contrarian view and say that he's largely been overrated as a recruiter.

I'm not saying he is currently landing/developing the top guys in areas of need, but if you go 15-0 while playing in the SEC, you have recruited a lot of top notch players.

Burrow said a conversation he had with Orgeron convinced him to go to LSU because he felt O was all-in on him and believed in him while others didn't. Chase was committed to Florida and then was possibly going to go to Auburn until O showed up to his house with the whole coaching staff. Justin Jefferson had no major offers from other colleges other than O's offer for him at LSU which he kept open until he qualified late (academically). Most people were not very excited about CEH and O could have refused his scholarship offer after Miles was canned, but he didn't and he talked him up all the time. K'lavon Chaisson said he was going to play for Texas until O showed up at 4 am at his house and followed him to the aiport before he was taking a visit to Florida just to get a visit in and Chaisson said it made such an impression on him that he chose LSU.

So although O clearly has a number of things that we can dog him about, I have to give him credit with recruiting those guys because they said themselves how their recruitment from him led them to LSU and they were massive parts of the national title.
