Average overseas players can get a $65,000 contract with ease. Depending on the league that players get into in Europe, salaries can start as high as $100,000.
so you are saying that LSU grads start between $6,500 and $10,000/year?

Jordan Mickey leaning toward NBA
Knows Ben Simmons is going to come in and crush the SF position for LSU.

So dumb. He doesnt shoot well enough to play SF and is too small to play PF. Zero chance he gets drafted

Except Mickey is solely a PF...
aware. so Mickey will put up better numbers with Simmons and Blakeney taking shots? Everyone is saying he needs to improve his offensive game. He's going to illustrate that with the offense running through Simmons and Blakeney?

:lol
Not to mention the hassle of actually hoping they pay when they say they will.

He's not going to improve his stock. I think most people understand that. So if he understands that then the decision comes down to start making money now overseas or dleague or start next year and sit in classes for another year.
If he thinks of it in those terms it's probably an easy decision for him.

He would have to play the way Carl Landry plays the game in order to survive in the NBA.

Could you get him a job at Mockler if he doesn't make it?

What's so stupid about it?
quote:Hamilton was a different case- for one thing, he got his degree (graduated in May '12 after announcing in April '12), so he got what he could from LSU for the future. Also, Hamilton is 7 ft 260. Mickey doesn't have the degree yet, and he's not 7 ft tall.
Was Justin Hamilton also stupid?
quote:Well, let's see... fulltime minimum wage is about $15 grand a year now; there's little info online, but I don't see anything saying the Euroleague teams are paying more than around 150 grand to rookies. So, no, unlikely, unless the average LSU grad only makes minimum wage. Then you have to consider- how long will you play (10 yrs or so maybe), vs how long you will need to make money- (30-40 years, brings you to retirement age).
He'll get to travel to Europe and play basketball for a living at 10x the starting salary of your average LSU grad
I HOPE he really understands what he's doing.

quote:This is just bullshite too. The NBA, which is the hardest league to break into in the world, is not gonna take on a debatable 2nd rounder who is clearly not ready for him to learn. He will have a much better chance by staying at LSU than going to Europe. Barkley always says the problem with the ones that don't make it is they leave college too early because college is when you truly learn to play the game.
He will not be "more ready" by staying at LSU.. he is a tweener.. if he can make a team either by draft or free agent, he will learn infinitely more at NBA practices than he will ever learn over a 30 game season at LSU.

Why is everyone blasting him? So ESPN says a source says he is leaning.
Who knows if their source is even right, and if it is, this doesn't mean he has decided...
Maybe we should wait to call him a dumbass until he actually declares??

Didn't Hamilton also graduate? I hated losing Hamilton but it made sense for him to go if he had a degree, there was a coaching change and he had only one year left. None of those dynamics are in play here. It makes no sense for Mickey to go. He won't make enough money to set himself for life, he won't have a degree and he's passing up the opportunity to be on a special team next year.

Good luck to Jordan with whatever decision he makes. He's been a great Tiger
Posted on 3/24/15 at 11:13 am to asmiley1025
Dumb decision if it happens.

Good luck Jordan mickey. Wish you would stay but money talks
Wish you could have hit a few free throws but we still love you.

Here is what everyone is forgetting, as well. Jordan Mickey does NOT translate to the international game. Not a good ball handler, not a good passer, above average mid-range jumper. He's literally leaving to leave. Every player can get hurt at any moment, doesn't mean they should just leave. He has NO STOCK right now. Even if he comes back and gets hurt it won't hurt his stock because it's literally not there. I still think there are areas he can improve on and at least give teams something to think about.

Don't tell that to some of the know it all posters on here swearing he would stay because he wouldn't get drafted. They just have no clue that there's other places to play besides the NBA

Yes, wanting t get to the NBA as fast as possible is "so unbelievably stupid".
Do I think he's ready? Probably not. Do I think he can make a career out of basketball and become a millionaire? Yes. Even if it's overseas. But he'll get time in the NBA.
But to say it's so "unbelievably stupid" when you have no clue what his family and financial situation is like is absurd.

Unfortunately Mickey is not ready. I don't think he gets picked.
