Yeah, I remember Mickey always going for the block in school. Got more down to it (had to) in the League.
If Martin was coming out now, he'd have a lot more value seeing how the game is different. Big man in the corner spreading the floor. Come to think of it---didn't he go in the second round?

Jordan Mickey had one of the biggest meltdowns I’ve ever seen in the NC State NCAAT first round game. He went from great to flat out awful in the final six minutes. It was the worst psychological meltdown I’ve ever seen. It’s worth a watch on YouTube if you’re not familiar.

This moment proved CJJ is a terrible coach. He couldn’t see that Mickey was having a meltdown and should have pulled him. Mickey’s performance could have been matched by anyone sitting in the stands.

I'm going to defend Jones a bit here. Yes, the final 8 minutes for Mickey were bad offensively. But his defense helped keep LSU in the game despite the fact they literally could not get a FG. Mickey had FIVE blocks in the 2nd half to offset the fact LSU went 10 minutes without a FG. LSU was up 12 with 10 minutes to go, scored a grand total of 5 point the rest of the game and it STILL took a literal last second tip in to beat the. And its not as if Mickey wasn't getting good looks. He was missing from point blank. As frustrating as it was, I don't know what a HC can do to get a better shot. It was just a complete offensive meltdown on the biggest stage by arguably LSU's most consistent player for two years. Who was Jones going to put in? Darcy Malone.

Mickey was the goat, but he was far from the only guy missing shots down the stretch. With 9:00 to go LSU was on pace to score 80+ points...then the wheels fell off.

I thought about those guys last weekend and spent a few minutes looking at their post-LSU careers. It’s damned hard to stay on an NBA roster.

too bad those guys threw away an oppurtunity for a once in a lifetime tourney run for playing in Australia and Russia..
Martin made $6.4 million in 4 NBA seasons. And probably makes at least mid-6 figures, if not 7-figures in Australia.

Mickey made $3.9 million in 3 NBA seasons, and makes over $1 million from his Russian team.

I'd say both made the right decision.

I always thought something happened during the Oklahoma game. Tigers were on a tear then Simmons shut down.

You realize it’s not a one shot only type of deal? Both could have come back to LSU for one more year and still made the same NBA contracts a year later. Who knows, playing on a great college team, and they would have been if they had stayed, might have boosted their draft stock and given them more money.
