Plus this isn't football where everyone's regular season ends and the coaching carousel starts before bowl games. We could fire Jones now and still have to wait for conference and Ncaa tournament runs to be over to talk to our guy.

Not many Bill Frieder's out there anymore.

I def agree it's realistic but to think this season isn't wearing on players is naieve. Some of them will decide to leave before he's fired and before we hire a new coach. And recruits will makeup their mind about where they wanna go before we hire someone new. Like I said there's reasons to fire him there are none for keeping him. The buyout will be between 800 and 400k nomatter when it happens.

He's not going anywhere before the season is over.

Alleva will hire some retread coach that falls in his lap.

Basketball will continue to struggle.

No it won't. It puts us at a disadvantage. Agents of prospective coaches already know that there's a de facto opening. AD's of hot prospects can get their ducks in a row in terms of retention to ward off LSU. It just starts endless speculation and then the obligatory denials of potential candidates.

We were the first team to contact Herman. We were the first team to be able to start our search that wasn't the issue. The issue is that we have the worst admin in college sports.

The issue was that Herman wanted to go to Texas, his dream job. The other candidates were not slam dunk, elite hires. Alleva did the right thing.

As for the person who LOL'd at Alleva already having a list. You can bet your foul arse breath that he has a list. In the end, it about him selling the job to some up and comer and having the financial backing to make it happen. Even then, there are no sure things in a coaching search.

Meaning we will end up with Randy Livingston. You know, to ensure continuity of our recent success.

As an alum, if Johnny Jones has any pride in LSU basketball, and sees the historically bad basketball team he is putting on the floor, he needs to honorably resign now to give LSU an advantage in searching for his replacement.

And give up being bought out? Not happening. Would you leave that much money on the table?

He is not only a coach to those kids. He is a mentor as well. He would see that as walking out on them, even if it is better for the program's future. He will side with the kids before the program as he has a relationship with them. Remember, he went to their houses and recruited most of them. He knows their parents and siblings whom he assured that he would take care of their loved one. A man of integrity can't walk out on their family member like that.

Whatever JJ is selling to these kids everyday, at practice and in meetings, they ain't buying into it anymore. There's more negatives on keeping him around than there are positives. Right now I can only see two positives being the buyout amount and because he's a mentor. I'm pretty sure money is not an object here, and these boys are grown men and have changed coaches many times in their careers. Hell, most of the team has had multiple coaches between JC, AAU, multiple high schools, public & private. I don't give that argument much weight at all.

You're right. It's so funny to hear ppl say how much Jones loves LSU and how he's such a class act. If all that was true he'd realize he's in way over his head and he'd do what's best for the team his players and his school.

If he didn't realize how bad in over his head he was last year after he completely lost control of the team and they quit on him, then he never will.

The kids realized it and those who came back just didn't believe in him...and it showed.

This is my biggest fear. It would be the easy hire to do this, A Stansbury or Kermit. And the easy hire has been his M.O. lately.

And for me either is settling, I'd prefer Kermit of the two but we'd better get a no from 10 others before we get to either IMHO.

Kermit isn't leaving Murfreesboro, just signed an 8 year extension in June, which would put him over 20yrs and I believe a state pension.

Even daddy Dale resigned/retired when he saw the writing on the wall. Bow out respectfully, and you'll be treated like a king when you come back for your alumni appearances Johnny. You drag this thing out more because of the money you'll be losing otherwise? You'll join the list of any other former tiger that has fricked us somehow, i.e. Cecil Collins, Ryan Perrilloux, Curly Hallman, Lester Earl, etc. JJ will be hard pressed to find many people that will buy him a cold beer in this town if he waits till the end.

I really like Johnny Jones, was happy when he was hired, but I guess it is time for a change. If we don't want a retread, if we want change, why not make history, offer the job to Kim Mulkey.

The only person on the basketball team that hasn't quit is Jones, at least on paper. The team packed it up weeks ago.

Can't wait to end this season. What an embarrassment to the athletes at LSU in all other sports that care.

The only reason to fire him would be to get a look at how the players respond to Randy Livingston. Should have happened weeks ago.

not even inviting candidates who have actually had some level of success as a full time head coach is NOT the right thing.

the right thing is to perform an actual search that includes more than just Herman with only Orgeron as a fall back plan.

When has a coach of ANY team "done the honorable thing"? I'm sure it's happened, but 99% of them need to be shown the door.

There's a difference between seeing the writing on the wall, honorably bowing out to save face, and being fired.
