2004-05 North Texas 14-14 6-9 4th (West)
2005-06 North Texas 14-14 6-9 4th (West)
2006-07 North Texas 23-11 10-8 3rd (West) NCAA First Round
2007-08 North Texas 20-11 10-8 3rd (West)
2008-09 North Texas 20-12 11-7 2nd (West)
2009-10 North Texas 24-9 13-5 1st (West) NCAA First Round
2010-11 North Texas 22-11 8-8 4th (West)
2011-12 North Texas 18-14 9-7 4th (West)
North Texas: 190-146 91-88

Total: 205-162

He's got a "meh" overall record, but in 11 years he has won his conference only once. Other than being a former LSU player and a disciple of Dale Brown, this guy has done nothing to deserve this opportunity.

Dale is pushing Johnny because they're friends and Dale probably feels like he owes Johnny for taking the fall on the Lester Earl situation. I hope Alleva is smarter than to fall for this crap of a hire, if he's not he needs to go next.

As I've stated before, Dale was bound and determined that Jones was going to be his eventual successor. The Lester Earl fiasco kind of scuttled those plans at the time, but having Jones eventually become HBC at LSU has pretty definitely been an ego thing for Daddy Dale for at least 20 years.

Every old man wants to know they left a living legacy when their time is done. JJ is the only thing Dale has left to hang his hat on.

If you take out LSU ties people would be irate with the hire. However, he can probably recruit.

I believe this as well Godfather. It's a complex dynamic but IMHO I believe Dale feels this helps to buff his tarnished legacy.

I don't think there's a guilt on Dale's part for Jones being the fall guy because in Dale's mind it was all a Gestapo witch hunt in which he did no wrong.

Never mind the fact that whether the Lester Earl mea culpa was legit or not and that there were other violations to which LSU admitted and self imposed most of the resulting sanctions...Dale will never admit to doing anything wrong or accept any responsibility, thus he couldn't possibly feel guilty.

Why on earth would anybody at LSU listen to Dale Brown? He retired in relative peace. That's where it should remain. This has Pat Dye all over it. People making decisions that shouldn't be making decisions. At least Alleva is an outsider.

10 years prior to hiring Johnny Jones, North Texas's most wins in a season was 15. I'd take 5 in a row 20 win seasons, right now.

Maybe we could petition the sec to play only sunbelt teams so we can achieve those 20 wins. For your sake I hope you're a troll, if you think winning 20 in the sunbelt is the same as doing it in the sec you may need to be put in a padded room.

Winthrop played 20 years of basketball without playing an NCAA tournament games. Gregg Marshall brought them to that 1st tourney in his 1st season. Then he brought them to the tourney 6 more times in 8 years. He's doing similar at Wichita St.

I'd ride my bike to Wichita if Marshall rode my pegs back to BR

Hes doing it with a sun belt team. Hes not going to be coaching North Texas in the SEC... at least not after year 1.

Honestly! His record is beneath LSU. So now we're gonna hire him?

IMO we need an x& o's hire. We can't out talent most teams because we don't recruit nationally. If any of you recruit folks think we have future LA talent coming our way, let me know because I don't see it.
