No love for Johnny on my end. He was a shitty player and a miserable coach. Glad he's gone, obviously. If Johnny was all about what was best for the LSU basketball team, why was Eric Musselman's talents not used?

I don't think anyone has a good answer for this question.

We made the tournament. Perhaps they were used. It takes a lot to cancel out what J2 does at the helm. Seems like a question better reserved for 3 years ago, though.

JJ didn't need help from him or Suhr.

Considering that was during Johnny's only Tourney appearance, I'd say it worked pretty well. Granted we had Mickey, Martin, and Hornsby on the same team

Didn't Alleva influence this hire?

whether there is a correlation with Musselman being on the staff or not, the one year he was here LSU had their best defensive showing (though I would imagine that had a lot to do with Mickey blocking a million shots at the rim after LSU's perimeter defense gave everyone a free driving lane)

Its hard to know how anyone was used. You don't know, I don't know.... No one knows.

Well we were pretty good that year so maybe he was used somewhat. I feel like all of Johnny's assistants were just there to recruit

It's been discussed on here many times. Johnny wanted things done his way, which ultimately led to his downfall. Plain and simple.

From what I saw Nevada looked like us on offense. A lot of space to let the player work and no real structure.

But, I think mussleman's main input was on defense, where I think the one year he was here we were actually half way decent on D

Johnny failed miserably as a coach but he loved LSU. He did what he thought was best for LSU, it just wasn't.....

What way was that? It's confounding to imagine JJ overriding ANY assistant coach when considering the absolute clueless brand of basketball on the court.

There were a couple of coaches who reportedly on the way out spoke their frustration with their lack of input. Now one of them I heard speak on the radio one time and I was good with that...he was here to recruit. But the other I think probably had some good things to contribute.
