There is a chance Chavis will bring either Dan Brooks or Steve Caldwell with him to LSU. Brooks coached defensive tackles at Tennessee and Caldwell defensive ends.

LSU is still negotiating with Ed Orgeron to be Defensive Line Coach,

I still find it bizzare how a guy goes from a BCS conference head coach one year to a d-line coach the next.

Because he failed at his one and only HC gig that he wasn't qualified for in the first place.

He was a terrible head coach? He does not do X's O's well and can't seem to manage an entire team. The years he coached his defense, they were laughably bad. He was hired at Ole Miss to recruit some talent, which he did, and who they are now winning with under Nutt and his superior coaching abilities. He can recruit and motivate, that is ALL though.

I know. It just seems weird that he couldn't find a DC job somewhere or a HC job at a lower school. It's just hard to imagine a guy going from a HC to a position coach.

Well he never was one before.

just because Ole Miss made a bad hire doesn't mean someone else will give him another chance. Although Tennessee did that exact thing.

Well, anyone who visits the Coaching Changes board knows BilJ's and my feelings about Chavis. It's a safe hire and better than what we had, but it still leaves a "ughhhh" feeling though.

That being said, Welcome aboard and glad to hav you as a Tiger Chief and I hope you do really well here!!!

I’m actually very happy with this hire. Chavis is professional and Tennessee’s defenses have been consistently excellent. I’d rather get a solid guy to run the defense than just get a hot name to brag about. If I’m being honest, my top choice was Robinson, but Chavis is a very good hire. We need stability on defense.

I'm happy with the pick too. There's something to be said for loyalty, and I like the fact that he is not a vagabond that goes where the money is. Tenn has always had good LB play, and I'm excited to see what he can do with ours.

Agreed, but the ughhh would be lessened with Ed O and Vance Joseph.
