I'm not sure I've heard him talk about this before, so I figured I'd share.

Not sure about Maravich, but Brady put it pretty well with Minor:

1) "School just wasn't his thing."

2) "He was too emotional to play that position."

Brady came and talked to our fraternity and someone asked him about Tack. Without saying his name Brady said, "if you are going to plagiarize a paper from the internet at least change a couple of words and then after getting caught don't turn in the same paper to the same teacher."

Does anyone have a picture of the Slow Down Tack sign?

Thanks for the link.
That was a great interview. Brought back a lot of great memories of past players.

I thought during his sophomore year, Tack showed allot of improvement and promise for the future. Then like so many others that just want to play and not put in the work, he was never the same after the injury in his junior year.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again about Brady: under different circumstances, he would have been a legacy coach. People tend to regress when under substantial stress, and every personality flaw gets magnified. If he wasn't crushed by crippling sanctions at the start of his career, he would have had the margin of error to polish those traits and would have become a great one.

Tack Minor played like a human bowling ball. He had one speed - wide arse open.

I could attest to that. He was emotional at the REC too. He did not like me to say the least. Feeling was mutual.

"A great one"....yet he was far from a great husband and father. He seems to have changed, but that is part of his legacy as well.

Great coaches are rarely great fathers simply because of the time away from home that it takes to be great coach. Look at Nick Saban his kids are all kinds of screwed up.

Brady ridiculed some people, sometimes players, for no apparent reason. He had a better than thou attitude.

This statement could be made about plenty of coaches in multiple sports at a variety of levels.

I recall saying when Tack got here that there was no way Brady and Tack would both survive 4 years together at LSU...little did I know that both of them wouldn't make it

If John Brady had ever dropped dead of an aneurysm on the court, that blood would have been on Tack's hands...

I used to manage a resort in Fort Walton Beach and Bob Dean Jr. used to host a coaches clinic there. I got to meet Bobby Knight, John Chaney and several other coaches who I can't remember from all those years ago. I was sitting with Joe Dean and John Brady at our Tiki bar when Brady received a call. It was call from Kwami Brown saying he was going pro and would not be playing for LSU. Let's just say the cursing began; boy was he pissed. Other than that it was a pleasure visiting with him.
