Plus the tone of your post... dead give away!

I do admit to have a bit of a distinct literary voice (nevermind a healthy disdain for JoeRob-bing LSU of good money).

We have a LSU trained ST/DL coach at the Bills. Hand trained by Arsparger. Beside that, he is a top recruiter. Would we hire one of our own?

who?

Charles Kelly was a DB Coach at Nicholls. He is a fine coach and person. He took Coach Daye's ST work and has made a great career using it. Has been at GaTech under Chan Gailey who is at the Bills. Is a believer in Daye. They both have interviewed on several occasions at LSU. Don't think Kelly has coached DL, but Daye did at MSSU where he was DC and worked ST, too. They both are great recruiters.

A big reason why we have so many starters and 2 deep in special teams is because your alloted 63 on the travel team(i believe). So instead of using scrubs, you use your two deep for efficiency.

Just a minor correction, travel size against an SEC opponent is 70. 80 are allowed to participate at home although a team can dress more. Its more along the lines of getting your best athletes on the field even if that means you use a starter at a position of depth, hence Ridley and Brandon Taylor on kickoff.

Like 7thWard said, you can't just put guys out there and tell them to make the tackle or fall back and hit someone on a punt. There's guys who can play special teams and guys who don't get it. Joe Rob was responsible for getting the latter to the former, and i'd say he did a great job.

Returning punts and kicks is so important. Getting someone that can catch the ball and then run. A lot of it is like kicking...in your head!

Guy didn't develop any players while he was here. Sailer did that.

Guy didn't recruit any players, & lost several, while he was here.

But, he lined up our ST guys-many of whom are/were starters-properly, so that means he's awesome.

He couldn't recruit in THIBODAUX, Louisiana.

I'll repeat myself. Once more, with feeling.

HE COULD NOT RECRUIT IN THIBODAUX, LOUISI-FREAKIN-FRACKIN-ANA.

As a coach for LSU.

AS A COACH FOR LSU.

LSU can do much, MUCH better for itself.

Yes, I believe the Tigers can do better, but I still believe the OL coach, Stud is the weakest link on the college staff. I would have been very excited to read that he is leaving--too bad!

Very important hire!!!! I think we need a special teams guy that actually have the best players on special teams out there. Maybe the Saints special teams coach.

When hired, a couple coaches told me he wouldn't be here long. Best of luck to Joe Rob....

I just hope we hire a young up and comer so people will quit saying they want a young up and comer every time there's a coaching vacancy.

What does the job pay? That might give us an idea of what coach they may get.

Joe Rob was a proxy of Chris Sailer. He didn't evaluate any of our kickers, nor run any of LSU's ST camps. Sailer ran them all. He took Sailer's recommendations on sight.

Joe Rob got worked over recruiting locally. Trooper Taylor got a foothold in Thibodaux in part because of Robinson's ineptitude and laziness, coupled with Miles' own laziness & lax trusting of a coach that got circles ran around him.

Joe Rob also had to be talked into allowing Peterson to return kicks this year. That brilliant decision wasn't even one he was willing to pull the trigger on without others on the staff & the team leaning on him.

Joe Robinson had the FG unit together and waiting on the sidelines in '09 in Oxford, & literally called them off. We did not have time to put that unit on the field because he made a wayward decision to call them away. He is-though not directly-responsible and accountable for one of the worst moments in recent LSU Football History.

Joe Rob didn't recruit Peterson, & Fisher recruited Holliday. Yet he didn't want the former returning kicks, & the latter would make many coaches look good.

JoeRob ain't no great shakes. He had the ear of Miles, & had burrowed his way into the Miles Inner Circle. Good riddance to a waste on our staff.

Net negative recruiter who bungled major jobs with Reed & by extension, Robinson, & also a smoke-and-mirrors special teams coach.

But, hey...He won an award. That must make him good.
THIS!!!...You speak the truth!

I don't know who the other coach is, but I would guess Ron Cooper
