So you think a single data point refutes my claim? And you haven't even considered LSU's strategic initiatives vis-a-vis expanding the student body during that same timeframe? I'm sorry, but your claim is the one that is BS.

The idea that football programs expand student bodies is 100% myth. None of you can produce anything other than anecdotal evidence in support of the claim.

The truth is that student body expansions have more proximal causes, such as the strategic actions of universities to recruit out-of-state students. Football success helps improve the university's brand, TRUE. That makes strategic initiatives easier, TRUE. But other actions are necessary to entice students from the coasts to attend a deep south school. Alabama is doing those things. LSU is not.

Also, I would separate the issue of student SUPPORT from the issue of student RECRUITMENT.

So you got them on campus? Now what? You going to let them live in squalor and study in a shite-hole library? That's LSU in a nutshell right now.

The student population doubled in a decade. Tuscaloosa is booming. Alabama's academic programs are improving, as is its reputation (e.g, it just achieved R1 status). All this because of their investment.

And the football has been the dominant force in college football for the last decade. I'm sure the increase in the enrollment and having the housing to accomodate them is just a big coincidence?

Please tell me what got me to LSU besides the football team and TOPS?

Because no I didn’t consider anything LSU did to recruit students besides having a football team and TOPS

LSU football makes more net revenue in one home game than this professor will ever account for teaching a communications class.
Seems he would’ve anticipated the arse kicking given his academic discipline ??

What is your point? Mine is that LSU is not investing in its student body. I don't see the lazy river as a meaningful investment. Do you disagree with that point? If so, what evidence can you provide to suggest otherwise?

UREC Facility is a auxiliary unit of LSU. Meaning they cannot run on "State" money. Their funds must come from fees and/or additional revenue sources (memberships, ticket sales, rental of the facility, etc.). Fees were presented as a student referendum and approved by the students.

LSU Academics is in the position it is in now specifically because of the failed leadership by coastal elitists running the school. Now your idea to fix the problem is to encourage their children to attend? I’ll pass.

They want lowered academic standards for more minority students and foreign born visas.

Also, this conversation can not even begin to be had until JBE and the remaining Jindal holdovers are gone.

I have stated that both phenomena have the same underlying cause. This means that the correlation between the success of the football program and the expansion of the student body is spurious -- one does not cause the other, but rather result from the same underlying cause.

Not a coincidence. Same underlying cause. But one does not cause the other.

I'm on my phone and will bump this post later...but there's countless data points out there that when the premier athletic program of the university has a standout year that applications to the school are up the following year.

And this goes for major football schools as well as regional/commuter schools like FGCU, George Mason, Butler, and VCU that have made runs in Final Four.

That's a spurious correlation. The undergraduate population has grown because they targeted out of state students with partial scholarships.

Why do you think the out of state students are coming to Alabama? Because of the football team.

That's good! I will grant that point in favor of student investment. They should do more things like this.

No, because they are being actively recruited and, in many cases, offered partial scholarships. Football helps sell it. I have stated that. But football alone is not the reason.

Robert Mann is a noted leftist troll who is always bitching about what LSU doesn't get. Former press secretary for several Democratic politicians, including Blanco when she was governor.

That is a fact. Not anecdotal.

Bama has always shown a correlation between football success and increased enrollment.

I’ve read the articles discussing it, but am not wasting my time finding them for 82’s amusement.

That's a spurious correlation. The undergraduate population has grown because they targeted out of state students with partial scholarships. Certainly, the campus environment and the football atmosphere make Bama an easier sell to kids and parents in California and New Jersey. But Alabama has invested in both the school and the football program, which is why both are doing well. The football program alone isn't bringing those students to campus.

What I'm trying to say is that the underlying cause of both things is investment.

LSU is not investing in its student body. Unless you count the goddamned lazy river.

Wrong. According to this study, success in major sports results in an increase between 2-8% in applications to a university, consisting of both high and low scoring students. Go be a dumb dick elsewhere.

Have you accounted for top public schools that don't win championships? How do you explain the population increases in student bodies of schools like Cal Berkeley or UCSB?

Your claim implies that schools without top football programs should not see the same student body population increase. That is, unless there is a more proximal underlying cause -- the strategic initiatives of universities.
