I empathize with he and his family, but how long is one of the top 5 football programs supposed to go without a fully dedicated DL coach?

We are missing valuable recruiting time that is putting us even further behind.

You really can’t have this at a program like ours.

His medical issue could be setting this program back 2-3 years with just from him being missing this year.

In all honesty, if he can’t do the job then he should let Kelly know and resign accordingly.

Half of Pete Jenkins is more than 110% of anyone else.

On the other hand, he might not die.

Kelly whiffed on this one. He should have replaced him. Lindsey has personal stuff going on and I get it. But we replaced an engineer who had similar issues at my firm. The work goes on. It doesn't stop. The engineer on leave is coming back in January and will be used in another project.

Exactly.

A DL coach is probably the most vital recruiter on staff.

If you don’t have one, you are fricked.

If you have one that’s only 50-60% health wise you are fricked as well.

The DL coach needs to be high energy 100% of the time.

We don’t have anyone worth a crap recruiting or coaching DL.

Now we are getting passed up on the DL front by OLE MISS.

LET THAT SINK IN

For anyone who wonders if position coaches really make a difference

I guess so.

I also know you can’t hire a DL coach mid season.

But man, this unfortunate health issue has basically made DL recruiting this year non existent.

A completely lost year

Kelly and the new DL coach will have to hit on a shite ton of DL in the transfer portal. They will have to bat .10000 this year.

Sigh...we've been through this a number of times. Lindsey had to bow out in AUGUST. How many good D-Line coaches do you think are out there sitting by the phone waiting to come to LSU in AUGUST?!! Anyone worth having was gainfully employed and not leaving their job just a couple of weeks before the season started. A totally different situation than your workplace.

This will be handled after the season. Either Lindsey will be back next year or we'll hire someone else this off-season.

100% this

And Lindsey has been recruiting. Fully expect him to be back and hope he’s healthy and ready to roll.

Kelly makes $100 million to make those calls. Our clients don’t give a shite about personal issues, you make a replacement or lose the client. Apply that to this situation

Sure, but he surely should have done better than just plug in an analyst with no real DL experience at all.

Its the middle of the damn season. Every DL coach currently has a job. Would you feel better if they fired him now?? Because your feelings trump everything...

That’s why we got Jenkins after a few weeks.

You can argue he should have made the call to Jenkins earlier and I would agree. But it would have done nothing to change the recruiting situation, which appears to be OP’s gripe.

The reality is that you’re pretty well fricked when you lose a position coach in August unless you have someone on your staff who can step right into the role. We did not.

Could Kelly have found a warm body who could attempt to fill the recruiting void? I mean.. maybe. But A) position coaches who are available in August are highly unlikely to be on the staff next year, B) the fact that everyone knows this makes it even harder to find somebody at that point in time, and C) a lame duck position coach isn’t exactly a recruiting asset anyway.

If you’re going to go get somebody midyear you can do a hell of a lot worse than Pete Jenkins.
