people still don’t know how buyouts work

There was no need to offer a coach NO ONE in college football wanted $3.5 million a year and therefore no need for a 10 million buyout. It was stupid as is Alleva.

Because of the clowns running the ship LSU now has to deal with two NC football coaches in the west and LSU has about as far away from a NC coach as you can get.

Saban feels the same way about Baton Rouge and LA even though a lot of pricks in LA hate him for going to Alabama. Dude is always talking about Baton Rouge and LA period. Those two West Va boys love some LA. Lol

Did you watch that Spring game?? LMAO

There's no money in the world that can fix that team and I'm not sure if Jimbo is the right guy to do it. I think he would have been a much better fit at LSU TBH. He better be recruiting his arse off because they need it. That offense was bad but the defense was worse.

I mean this guy had some ultra talented teams at FSU and couldn't finish in the ACC. He let Dabo and Clemson take over that conference. I think he thought he could step right up and take LA boys out of this State with O here and it's not happening. If LSU has a good season or two with him sputtering to get it altogether then he's in deep shite. O will be the one cherry picking.

I think O has a good staff. Most may not believe it but the players sure as hell do and that matters much more. Those players need to believe. I'm not too sure that A&M is filled with a bunch of confidence at the moment and Jimbo may not be the right guy to get them to that point. JMHO

Jimbo addresses LSU
IF he wanted the same kind of deal aTm gave him I'm glad we passed on him

LSU was never going to offer JIMBO the buyout he wanted in 2016. Florida State renegotiated his contract after the season with over 30 million buyout and a raise to keep Jimbo at Florida State. After the 2017 season the Aggies gave him over 70 million buyout. 7 million a year and a 70 million dollar buyout for this coach is not a good deal.

Saban is worth this and more but not Jimbo.

Jimbo is a good coach and won a national title on the arm of a great QB similar to Auburn with Cam. He did not build a power house team compared to Saban at BAMA or even Clemson with Dabo.

Why are we talking about a coach who has lost 12 games over the last three years, while having superior talent?

I wouldn't trust Jimbo. Big Marvin Wilson said that he chose Florida state because Jimbo Fisher told him that he was going to take care of him on and off the field. The truth is that Jimbo would have left last year had LSU given him the money that he wanted and got from Texas A&M. He wanted out of Florida State and he knew that fact before he eventually left.

I don’t know where you got that.

The buyout is the entirety of the contract.

Hypothetically, if aTm went 1-11 in 2018 and aggies fires him, they would be on the hook for 67.5M

DAve, Sammytiger tells me that a lot of coaches do not have buyouts that essentially guarantee their contracts, and cited Jimbo as one. He said 45 of his 75 mil is guaranteed and I just wanted a link

I don’t know where he got that.

I thought it was commonly held knowledge Fisher gets every single penny of that money.

Nobody in their right mind would give Jimbo Fisher a guaranteed 75 million or guarantee TEN YEARS?

I'm sorry Jimbo is not worth it.

Jimbo Fisher is overrated and y'all should be happy that y'all dodged that BS bullet of a contract that he wanted. FSU's talent is just as good as LSU's if not better and all he could do was muster that 1 title because of superior QB play by ole crab claws. If I was watching for the next really good upcoming hot coach I like the young guy at Memphis, dude is legit.

It's a 10 year contract. Anyone you hire is going to get a minimum 5 years at the position if they are even remotely good at their job (AD isn't going to hire and fire within 5 years) unless the coach immediately implodes or leaves for another program. If anything, you are securing your head coach for a longer run which is better than hiring some younger coach who might bolt the first chance a larger program comes calling with more $$.

You know you are getting an elite recruiter and you are securing your offensive play calling so you don't have to churn that as soon as you have some success. It also shows A&M is willing to pay the $$.

I would say FSU is better now than they were when Jimbo took over for Bowden so in all of those ways, A&M is going to come out better in the end.

Of course A&M will be better because Fisher is a better coach than Sumlin, but I don't think he's worth the money that they paid him. It will be a lot harder for LSU to win now because the talent at coaching just got a lot better in the division and just not at A&M either, but all around the conference.

Also with recruiting now starting even earlier for elite players, coaching stability is a huge asset to a program from a relationship standpoint so the longer term contract the better. It might "feel" better for LSU fans to have taken the chance on Orgeron knowing it could probably dump him within 4 years if it didn't work out but for the stability of the program, replacing a head coach is terrible. Look at Texas, Michigan, USC, and Florida who have all replaced their head coach multiple times within a 10 year period.

I would rather hedge my bets with an elite recruiter, with elite head coaching experience at a major program like FSU, and the strength of a national championship reputation with multiple 1st round NFL QBs than to hedge my bets on a shorter, cheaper contract to some young coordinator or up and coming head coach that either could be a bust or likely to bolt somewhere else for more money.

A&M will come out better no matter what happens with Jimbo at the end of his time than where they are now with him starting out.
