I hate it when announcers refer to their team as "we." Glad he doesn't do that.

But who can forget the Hawthorne call in Kentucky when Jack Hunt caught the hail mary in the blue grass miracle!

great stuff there!

Surprised it took so long for that to be brought up.

Leave it to Jim to botch the call on perhaps the most famous play in LSU history.

Yeah, honestly I don't have to listen to Hawthorne but for a few baseball games a year (which are quite painful), but he's got to be nearing the end of the line. And I'll concede he's pretty good at basketball but it is like listening to someone read an in-game thread.

Yep. I've noticed that for awhile, especially with football. He always sounds like he's waiting for the next bad thing to happen, plus he has a terrible habit of calling the play before it happens which is one of the first things you're taught not to do.

Yeah, this is true. Jim's negativity is obviously from the fact that he loves LSU so much and hates to see them make mistakes/lose, but it's like he can't control himself at times. It gets aggravating. And Jim also needs to realize that as a radio broadcaster, he can take his time and call the play when he is sure of what happened because we can't see anything and can't see the live action (minus a few people). I've heard him say field goals were missed when they went in, passes were incomplete when they were completed and baskets were no good when they were good. If he would just pause a second, he wouldn't have to correct himself or make it sound like something miraculous happened for the call reversal.

Jim has a great voice for sports and is really exciting to listen to when things are going well. I've always enjoyed that part and some of my best memories when I was younger was listening to him and Doug on the radio. But he lets that negative side take over way too much (and comes off as cranky with other people in the booth at times when they are struggling).

I've also noticed that Jim doesn't understand what a 2-possession game is. Mickey was at the line when we were already up by 4 and he said, "if he makes these it will make it a 2-possession game." It's already 2 possessions since you're up by 4!

Basketball is by far Hawthorne's worst sport to call. The game moves too fast for him to give a play-by-play and he gives up on the team every time we get down. I don't think he really understands the sport either by some of his strange comments. Thank God all games are shown on TV now so I don't have to listen to him anymore. I think they should give basketball to Kevin Ford or someone else.

Mickey went to the line when we were up 2 and made both. Then Mickey blocked 2 shots and Quarterman got fouled and Quarterman went to the line up 4.

Unless you are talking about a completely different part of the game then the ending, and if so my apologies.

Didn't they do an edit afterward to play on the radio? Can you imagine how embarrassing/humbling that must have been? He almost would've been closer to being accurate if he would've lost it and said Jose Vargas caught the TD. At least he was black...even though he played basketball.

On the other hand, his Warren Morris call was phenomenal. At least he nailed the greatest moment in the history of college baseball.

I have had people try to convince me that he actually says "3-run homer" …but I am undecided as to if that's actually what he says.

Seriously he calls all lsu games, football, basketball, and baseball like s negatiger would. He's always been this way. He gets more emotional and loud for good plays by the other teams than he does those by Lsu, at times it seems anyway.

You're correct. I just listened again and I'd heard wrong.

He's worse with football. I mentioned this a while back on the Rant, and the pro Hawthorne crowd jumped on me like Mexicans on beans.

Nah, he says "2-run home run." And yeah, every time you see the bluegrass miracle clip with his voice they always edit out, "Jack Hunt caught it and scored!"

Are you sure? He's back to pass. NO it's a run. Wait, it is a pass.
