It isn't just a one game deal. He is like that most, if not all, of the time. The USM game is being discussed because it is just the most recent in a long line of examples.

And we really don't have the option to stop listening dumbass. I love LSU baseball and if I'm not at the Box and the game isn't on TV I'm forced to listen to him. I'm not about to boycott LSU baseball because of Hawthorne's whiny, self absorbed, grumpy arse.

No those innings for some reason are very boring sounding, monotone and such.

I prefer the other innings.

I ain't read all the posts but I know one thing-from experience. The older a guy gets, the more his skills fade.

I've been listening to sports broadcasting for most of my life and have listened to the best. Howard Cosell, Pat Summerall, Curt Gowdy, etc. etc. and every one of them as time went on got more and more painful to listen to. Hawthorne is no different.

Anybody watch the Cotton Bowl and listen to Summerall? Guy at one time was the premier broadcaster but it's absolutely torture to listen to him now. Same with John Madden. And anybody who watched the CWS last year had to absolutely cringe listening to Mike-what's-his-name! Thank heavens I was able to turn off the sound and listen to the night games and JH on WWL!

Like everybody else, these old guys don't want to quit doing what they love and JH is no different. I've been a big supporter of him in the past and I think the guy could still be useful to LSU in another capacity but as I much as I've enjoyed him in the past, it's time to move on. A lot of the complaints are about his attitude which somebody higher up could and should address. That's fixable.

But I won't stop listening to games. Thank God for WWL!

I've not read all the pages, but I've scanned most of the posts. For me, the issue here is job performance. Jim Hawthorne's performance as a broadcaster of LSU athletic events is no longer adequate. I'm not bashing him. I'm not discounting his many years of service to LSU. I accept that he's a loyal LSU fan. Nevertheless, his work is not up to the standard required. I'll continue to listen to radio broadcasts of LSU events, but only as a last resort.

+1

In my opinion, the only old sports broadcaster who is still enjoyable and professional is Vin Scully.

I think everyone should answer this question:

does Jim enjoy calling games anymore?

Honestly I don't think he does.

I think its funny that yall think I'm the one with the problem when I am perfectly happy with the way things are.

Yall are the ones who clearly have a problem. I'm just here supporting the LSU announcer who I think it doing a fine job and who I enjoy listening to.

Each side thinks the other is the problem...I've been here close to 5 1/2 years and in that time the Hawthorne issue has come up time and time again and in the beginning of my time here the one's wanting him to stay far outweighed the ones wanting him gone...

now its just the opposite from what I am seeing IMO...to me that is a clear sign that there is a problem with his broadcasting methods that people are no longer wanting to tolerate...and I am one of those in the beginning that wanted him to stay but no longer...
