A better response probably would have been to say he'll still prepare as though he's the starter. Not hoping the other guy falters so you can get your job back.

I don't think he meant much by it, like someone said he's just not very media savvy

You want Jefferson competing for the starting job. It pushes our qb's harder. I have no problem with it.

of course

but do you want him saying, "being a starter is still a goal"? what good comes from that? all it does is make him sound selfish

shut up, and show thats your goal on the practice field

I would have been surprised if that wasn't his goal. It should be every players goal. I have no problem at all with JJ's statement.

He didn't say "I should be the starter." He understands that he is #2 right now, with a goal of starting again one day.

Anyone else have a problem with this JJ quote tonight? Miles has stated numerous times that Lee is the starter. Why would JJ come out and say he wants to be the starter to the media? Obviously any QB wants to be the starter but you don't say it to the media in this situation. Last year after Lee bailed JJ out and won the UT and Florida games Lee NEVER said he wanted to be the starter or anything about him starting. He said PC stuff like " I just want to help the team win" etc. Shouldn't JJ have just said something like that?

Its a goal dickface!

I have no problem with it. Seems like some people on here simply nitpick Jefferson with no real reason for it.

JJ should want to be a starter and I am ok with him saying it. He shouldn't really give a dam about what a bunch on whiny women on a message board think. He should focus on being a team player and doing what he can to help this team win the SEC and a BCS Championship.

jefferson wanting to start is understood. really wasn't necessary for him to come out and say it.

he had a fine opportunity to say, "i am happy to be back, and look forward to doing all that i can to help the football team, etc."

he went there. another selfish and immature decision, imo.

So JJ should just role over and give up.He shouldnt even dress out at practice, he should just go to practice in hes pjs and take a nap on the sidelines.Because obviousley trying to get more playing time makes him a selfish punk.

Since Jefferson has yet to be 2nd place in anything he does not know how to respond/act. Jarrett Lee has been humbled ever since his 'throw him to the wolves' freshman season.

Jefferson wasn't thrown in that same season?

Guess that makes every player selfish since they all want to start

SOB!...get off the guy's arse.
Miles can handle the situation. He is only 67-17. Let him coach, let the season play out and watch.

Man, we have some righteous people on this board. Apparently many seem to go through life with few mistakes. It just doesn't seem to come so easy for me. I'd love to see some of our fans living under a microscope, subject to immediate public comment about their every move. I wonder if they could live by their proclaimed standards.

The problem is that all the Lee lovers know that he is going to get significant playing time and it is eating at their core. Have any of you played any type of sport above JV ball honestly?(I'm talking to Doc,Lee,Dbg etc.) Bc if u did ur goal was always to be a starter not #2. Those guys that are happy with being #2 in life don't make it very far.

I don't really care

They all want to so whether or not they say it to the media makes absolutely zero difference to me.
