Both Kelly and Denbrock want Daniels to take the job. You may not want to believe that, but I'm willing to bet that's what they want.

You failed to mention that all of the dual threat QBs in Denbrocks & Kelly's system outweighed Daniels by 25 to 40 lbs. At 185 lbs, Daniels will get absolutely destroyed running the ball against SEC defenses.

I can assure you,the competition will establish the depth chart. Kelly is only interested in who can win ball games and keep his arse off of the hot seat.

I will never understand the Brennan fanboys and their love affair for a kid who isnt very good and who has shown zero discipline for the position. If he truly wanted to be QB1 he would do everything in his power to get it. Instead he is fat as a pig and we hear how he spends all his time hunting and fishing.

The day he is no longer an LSU player cannot happen soon enough for me. Am sick and tired of the fanboys ruining every thread with their delusional mindset that he will be the starter.

Daniels has started every game since his freshman year and has yet to be injured.

Everyone worrying about can he read the defense well he’s got about 30 starts at qb so I feel pretty good about his knowledge of the position. He’s ran a ton too .

Idk why this thread is 4 pages of discussion about someone leading the job. Myles didn’t pass in his video and Daniels threw 3 passes.

There’s not a thing to be learned from those clips

That’s why they’ll need a solid backup in Myles.

I haven’t heard coach BK or Denbrock mention JD’s weight as an issue for them so why do you all keep saying it?? This guy actually has starts in Power 5 at his current weight so you shouldn’t worry

It was a knock of Myles bc he’s a statue in the pocket and still is. JD can use his feet and ultimately what I think will be the difference

Myles is talented but is his arm significantly better than JD’s?? I haven’t seen this

Now is JD’s ability to run, avoid the rush and extend plays with his feet significantly better than Myles? Obv, YES. This and the dimension it adds to the offense will be the diff imo

Unless Myles has taken huge leaps and his arm talent is just unquestionably superior, I just can’t see it. And before y’all start, I like Myles and was always MB>MJ but also don’t care about his loyalty and waiting his turn, Play the Best Damn Player

Not sure that really means much yet, but I’d like to see Myles operating first team and throwing some passes.

I have a feeling they are going to rotate with each potential QB1 running 1st team for an entire practice, possibly multiples, until they eliminate guys and finally pick a starter.

Just a guess. And if they do there will be daily or weekly threads about QB X getting all the first team reps and what that means.

Brennan ran with the first team on Day 1. You are correct that they are rotating guys at this point.

This.

Give me the best QB on the field. I couldn’t give less of a shite who it is.

Do you realize he was on pace to break Burrow's passing stats in 2020 before he got injured? Would he have sustained that? Probably not, but don't tell me the kid can't be a starter. He busted his arse to gain weight so he could see the field. Don't tell me he lacks discipline.

Meh, not really. It's the other way around, anointing Daniels the starter after 4 passes on Twitter. How can you say he looks better? No one can really say anything

As a Sun Devil grad I've followed JD the past 3 years at ASU. It was absolutely shocking he transferred but the program is a dumpster fire right now and it's good he left.
This kid is REAL folks.
It's difficult to wrap my head around him sitting on the bench. He can extend plays and get first downs with his feet...BUT he has an arm.

Because all of the assholes and idiots on this board have to have something absolutely irrelevant and completely meaningless to fight each other over. They all want to be the one who called it first, even though it will be nothing more than a blind fricking guess for whoever gets it right.

Anyone who thinks this isn’t an issue moving to the SEC from the PAC12 is either clueless or insane. That conference has been weak for years and is basically ignored in playoff considerations. USC may change that soon, but they just aren’t in the same class. UCLA beating a mediocre LSU team and then completely underachieving the rest of the season doesn’t change that.

Also, more importantly, there is only one competent defense in the entire PAC 12 in Utah. Daniels had the worst game of his career vs Utah in 2019 and an average one in a loss last year where he was completely shut down running the ball. 14 carries for 35 yards with a long of 25. In other words, he made one play with his feet the entire game.

None of this means Daniels can’t play in the SEC or that he is doomed to get hurt, but the stats don’t lie here. He struggled, especially running the ball, vs a good defense that would be the low bar for most of the SEC. His size is not something to gloss over.

Whether due to injuries or neither Daniels or Brennan being a complete QB, I think both are going to play a lot this coming season. I will be shocked if either takes complete hold of the job.

Well then you’re gonna be shocked. Daniels at 6’3” 190lbs is not much different than Max at 6’5” 215lbs and max took a beating last year while staying healthy. 10lbs per extra inch height is not really noticeable. Jayden has also stayed heathy carry the ball 300 times in 2.5 seasons.

What they both have that Myles never will is the ability or agility to make the first step to avoid BIG hits. Joe was the master of this. Brennan is a clunky non athlete. Big arm for sure but in todays game those guys aren’t successful.

Also, if you watched Kelly’s presser, he talked about how JD mostly scrambled as opposed to scripted runs and he believes there’s untapped potential there. Meaning, he has a vision for an offense with JD. Meanwhile, all he’s said about MB is “why CANT it be you”

This doesn’t mean MB can’t win the job but you’re delusional if you think he fits this offense as well as ANY other QB on this roster.
