canada gave etling lots of short stuff to jack up his numbers also. because he knew what etling could and could not do well.

Erin, you of all people should know that wasn’t because of Etling’s limitations. That is and always was the Canada offense - throw underneath to backs and TEs and run your wideouts in jet sweeps. He did the same before he ever met Etling.

He does a great job hitting checkdowns and running for 2-4 yards instead of throwing it away.

That's the game of football.

When you stay on schedule with down and distance, you'll face more 3rd and 2s than 3rd and 7s. As a result, more 1st downs and less punts.

so if you want to claim Burrow's percentage was also up because he threw a lot of short passes, similar to Daniels, be my guest.

What was Burrow’s receiving corps versus Daniels’? When throwing deep you want what Burrow had and it ain’t close.

He was 13/19 against UCLA last year. 2 TDS and no picks. Put up 42 points on the same defense that held is to 27. He looked poised and confident. One game isn’t a tell all by any means, but against a common opponent he looked better than anything we had.

Kid has taken a bunch of snaps at a high level. Miss may be the future , but Daniels is likely the safe choice at this joint.

You basically entirely missed the point I was addressing. Daniels didnt throw some inordinate amount of short passes vs. others to help out his completion percentage...nobody was saying that about Burrow in 2019 when he threw the same percentage of short passes is the point.

Yes of course Burrow was elite everywhere, that wasn't the point I was addressing. Someone said Daniels only got 65% "because of all the short passes". Again, Burrow threw just as many short passes in 2019 and nobody was saying that about him back then.

Basically, Daniels' amount of short passes is not some statistical anomaly. If it was like 68%, sure, he threw a lot more short passes than other people, at 62%, not really. Burrow in 2019 was 61%, for example.

We going to just ignore the fact that Arizona State’s roster is not even comparable to LSU’s?

Apples to oranges dude. Get your head out of the sand.
Their RB who was also one of the top receivers last year was drafted in the 3rd round.

Why doesn’t LSU recruit a true Center? A guy with the right size and experience (with a high football iq)? Lsu always seems to be converting this guy or that guy to play center…..man, just freakin recruit the right guy who is ready to play from day 1…..

But 40% for passes over 10 yards. Like Max. Cant hit the explosive play downfield but good with slants hitches and passes to the rb. Lets hope he improves.

Neither was his competition.

If you gonna compare apples to apples, you also need to take into consideration the defenses Max faced were way better (not taking up for him, he still sucks ) with tighter windows to fit balls into than the porous defenses of the PAC-12. If Daniels is the starter, he will have a boat load more talent around him but he will also be facing a boat load more talent in the defenses he will face. It's all relative. If he's the starter, hopefully he's progressed a lot from what I've seen on film and saw in the spring game.
