We are going miss having someone like Braswell at 3B, dude made a ton of tough plays look routine there. So many times you have an offensive 3B who fields like .900 in college.

Yeah his offense never came around this year like it did last year but defensively he probably saved us a number of runs this season.

shite we had posters here still asking that up 1-0 at the end of game 1 of the final

Jay Johnson said in the coaches meeting before the finals one of them raised their hand on Braswell in the lineup and he said “let’s move on this is what we’re doing” after he really thought about it hard before the meeting. It wasn’t just posters questioning starting a guy hitting less than .200 and 1-39 until he finally got his first hit of the CWS in his last AB. I think it was the right decision to start him in the title series but you had to just accept the fact that there was an automatic out in the lineup. I just wish the hit he got would’ve come in the 4th and he got those 2 RBIs that ended up being the winning runs. Would’ve been an amazing moment for him and the stadium would’ve gone absolutely wild

Tommy White absolutely mashed the ball and played great defense last year. Obviously not many of him come around but it’s not out of the realm of possibility to have a solid 3B that makes all the plays and isn’t an automatic out. It’s not one or the other

Exactly. I think what CJJ meant is that he'll look to field an elite defensive team, which is different from most LSU teams.

LSU fans have a fetish for defensive specialists on the baseball team. We went through 5 years of Alex Milazzo apologist and now they moved on to Braswell

Obviously, Jay is going to want a guy who can do both. He’s shown he’s willing to go offense over defense plenty of times over the last few years, but when the defense is just too bad, he’s going to go with what makes sense.

shorten up swings for the guys who aren’t power hitters, especially with 2 strikes

In a vacuum, I completely agree. If Jay wants the current approach at the plate, I have no room to argue!

Did you watch the CWS? Because thats exactly what we did

We still had some long droughts in both games. Clutch hitting absolutely DID show up in the biggest games and biggest moments. No doubt about that.

That said, I’m thinking more about the regular season, where we went entire games (Ole Miss) and one series (Auburn) with really spotty hitting. This is an area where, if we got a little more consistent, we go from good to very good to absolutely dominant offensively through the SEC schedule.

Pitchers who attack with their best stuff and throw strikes, defenders who catch the ball, hitters who compete, grind out at bats and get timely knocks.

Baseball has been won this way for a long long time

A friend who is an LSU fan but didn't watch much of the season until Omaha asked why we didn't have anyone better than Braswell in the lineup. After watching him make plays for a week, he understood

I told ya'll when Braswell went in his hitting slump that Reaves wouldn't start, you can't replace Brazzy's defense.

I mean Omaha is a huge field, so yes great pitching, defense, and hitting for average is the 3 main factors of winning it all there

Jay nailed it. He DID platoon Reaves and even started him twice vs LR and WVU, but he obviously knew he could do it against those teams. As soon as we got to Omaha, it was Brazzy no matter what, and he delivered.

The Box isn’t Omaha, but it’s definitely bigger than a lot of other SEC parks. This style will work for us at home. We just have to avoid giving up bunches of runs to HRs on the road in the smaller stadiums.

As long as it doesn’t turn into a bunch of Hal Hughes types in the infield he can do whatever the hell he wants.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted votes. You speak the truth. Our offense disappeared for a week at a time.

Damn, dude. There's stiff competition when you get to Omaha. CC had the lowest team ERA in the country.

Ideally you don’t want to have to sacrifice anything. The more complete players you have the better. You’d like a player who can field their position and hit.

That’s the winning combo for Omaha and the current stadium

I like Braswell, but if I can get another Tommy White at 3rd I will also take that. I miss that as well.
