This might be what he wants from Gage. Possibly having a guy throw 2-3 innings in multiple high leverage situations in a weekend could be his plan here. With him coming off being hurt this won’t put too much stress on him to begin season.

I think it seems like Gage is going to get slowly brought into the fold an inning at a time in real action against weaker opponents. But that is just a guess.

That would be a bad way to handle a guy coming off injury.

Have him throw less innings than being a starter?

Throwing multiple times in a weekend is more taxing to a pitcher's arm than 1 start.

I was wondering why my wife says she can’t go twice in a day

Based off of Jay’s comments today in his media session, I think it’s pretty obvious that he is dealing with something currently

In what way would he be throwing less than a starter?

You said:

That would be a minimum of 4 to 6 innings per weekend with 2 appearances.

And on what planet would him throwing multiple times per weekend be easier on any pitcher not named Riley Cooper?

I don’t think 2 innings is a whole lot. If he’s closing he might be throwing one inning a game. Doubt he goes over 2 games.

Jump was supposed to be a weekend starter. Something is up. When it comes to injuries, Jay's words are intentionally clear as mud.

CJJ Press Conference
Listen for yourself. It was the first question asked after not disclosing the lineup and naming the 2 starters of the weekend rotation.

Hell IMO you could mute the words that Jay is saying and tell there's some issue by his mannerisms alone while he was dancing around the question with his answer lol

That’s a good guess.

Plus, coach has already discussed who his closers and setup guys are. Now, when post season comes around he might use starters to close games but not now, and not with Gage coming off an injury. I’d expect structured outings against weaker teams - maybe start him with a 20 pitch count and expand that until he is throwing 50 pitches. Then throw him in the mix.

He was rather assuring about Gage Jump. And later he spoke about nagging small injuries having a lot to do with who we would see. It’s just a guess, but I think Jump has a minor injury, like a blister.

That is far from certain. There are some big arms on this team. And CJJ might want to use Guidry in another role.
