So you want to know about how the Cannizaro situation came about--- well here's the story:
In 2000 Cannizaro met PM when Notre Dame was in the Starkville Regional along with Tulane. After the last game when ND knocked out Tulane--Mainieri congratulated Cannizaro in his stellar performance-- they connected. AS Cannizaro evolved with NY Yankees player development then as a scout for the Yankees, they continued to stay in touch about LSU players. Fast forward:
On January 18, 2014 at the Hilton Riverside Hotel for the 29th Annual "Louisiana Italian American Sports Hall of Fame" induction ceremony, Paul Bertuccini from LSU and Andy Cannizaro were inducted for 2014. Paul Mainieri introduced PB. Rick Jones introduced AC. At the head banquet table, AC sat between PM and Rick Jones. AC & PM talked for the entire time. At the end of the night PM told AC that he would love to have him on his coaching staff at LSU one day. The rest is history.

Oh great.. Why cant we just hire a guy that has no personal connection to CPM from his days prior to LSU? Why does it always have to be a friend with this guy? Look for the best man for the job.

Looks like marinara sauce is the new BBQ.

Were him and Dunn best bud before he came to LSU?

Yeah because that never works in sports does it? Did you wish that Miles wouldn't of hired his friend to be the OC last year?

Cannizaro is the part of the puzzle we need to get to Omaha consistently-- we will be better with our approach to hitting,(all aspects)bunting, running the bases,& fielding(he was the GOAT at SS for Tulane). He is going to make all of us proud.

So what degree of separation are you comfortable with when choosing candidates?

Because of his record of coaching college hitters and/or his outstanding recruiting success?
