He still has a couple years, but the Sox don't have a lot of depth in their system, so I really thought he'd be on the cusp of the show by now.

Did you see what he did last year? He was worse

His splits over 90 games between AA & AAA: .167/.293/.257

25 in AAA is getting to the point where if he doesnt' do it this year, he will be released.

Very rarely will a prospect make it after 26-27 years old in the minors. Especially a player whose game is based on speed.

25 is getting up there for a legit prospect. Especially a 1st rd pick. Still can't believe he went first round. He was a sandwich round/2nd round IMO.

Just for comparison DJ LeMahieu got drafted the same year as Jared and he is in his fourth year in the majors.

the quote was, "25 is old for a minor leaguer".

AAA is full of guys older than that.

as a 1st rounder, you would have liked him to be in the league by now, yes. But he's still not old by AAA standards.

The average age of players in Triple-A last year was 28, and the vast majority of players in Triple-A are older than their Major League Rookie counterparts. While there are some 25 year olds in Triple-A that will make impacts on their respective teams, few significantly older should be considered prospects.

He's getting old for "prospect" status. Just like Brett Jackson (25) and Josh Vitters (24)

I always thought along the lines of 5 or 6 years in the minors without significant improvement means they are not gonna make the show. Now you have those exceptions to the rule but the rule usually holds true.

25 is pretty much do or die time if you are a legit lrospect.

Not so much at AAA, but he is close to having to figure it out. If he was still at AA or below then absolutely. Several guys get the call from AAA between 25-30. As a prospect, he gets an extra year or two. With that being said, if he is demoted this year he definitely becomes questionable.

But he is really fast and played football........He was never a pure hitter and will never break into the league. IMO

Ok. If you want to skew it with all of the washed up veterans in their mid 30's that bounce back and forth between AAA and MLB then no, he isn't "old by AAA standards".

He is too old to be batting below .200 on any level. He should sign with the Cubs. They seem to appreciate players 25 and up that can't hit crap. Only they would allow Darwin Barney to start for so long. Not just play, but START! Mitchell should have his agent give them a call. They would probably pick him up.
