He needs a good hitting coach to help him. He surely won’t figure out what his problem is on his own!!!

He is overrated. I just don’t get all the hype about him. 8k over the weekend.
Agree. So he can hit a ball 500 feet. Big deal he strikes out way too much for a 2 hole hitter. He strikes out way too much period.

I feel like he swings at the first pitch too much. Normally I feel guys take too often on the first. If he will become more patient he will get in much more favorable counts.

It’s baseball, hitters have bad series. Shocking, I know.
In 27 SEC games, Jones is batting .241. He's tied for fourth on the team in HRs with Ethan Frey, who has almost 50 fewer plate appearances. Jones is hitting a home run every 32.5 plate appearances. For comparison... PA per HRS...
14.7 Hernandez
15.4 Brown
19.3 Milam
20 Frey
26.7 Pearson
32.5 Jones
38 Bras
43.3 Curiel
62 Dickinson
I love Jones. You can't pull him out of the lineup b/c he's playing great defense and can change a game with one swing. But we don't have to pretend that he's meeting expectations against SEC pitching.

Da BIG DUMMY done lost his Mojo!

In SEC play Jones has the most Ks with 43, the next closest player is Braswell with only 29
Braswell has been coming around the last 3 - 4 series, Jones' real issue is at least half of his K's have been caught looking, his mind is screwed at the moment and talking to his bat isn't helping. That said, even Curiel has had some challenges at the plate recently. Having that shite ump yesterday was the capper, he shouldn't be calling pitches in the SEC.

In the first half of this season, Jones was MUCH more patient at the plate, and he seemed to have finally developed the discipline he lacked. Go watch the games, and listen to the commentary. He was mostly ahead in counts. Hitting opposite field. Taking his singles and doubles, not always swinging for the fence.
When he started slumping, like every player does at some point in the season, he reverted back to his old ways. Getting behind early in the count, swinging at bad pitches, and striking out more. Occasionally, crushing balls, but mostly, weak at bats.
I've watched LSU baseball for a long time. He can very easily get it back and get hot in the post season. As a matter of fact, a lot of the hot batters during the year will cool off post season. For Jones, I'm hoping the opposite. He resets at the SEC tourney, and dials in. We need the guy's power to get us the the CWS. I've seen the discipline early. He just needs to find it again.

Seems like he swings and misses on first two pitches every at bat, down 0-2. We won't go far if he and Curiel keep slumping.

I think you have to move him down in the order

Thats an incorrect statement as well! All OUTS are not weighted equally. Easy example, runner on 3rd less than 2 outs. A guy who strikes out won’t get the runner home 99.9% of the time. A guy who can make contact has an infinitely better chance of bringing said runner home.
batter who makes contact also hits into more double plays. and a player who strikes out sees more pitches, wearing out the pitcher and getting to the bullpen.
this has been studied quite a bit and the answer is that outs are basically outs.
also, a player who strikes out a lot is not necessarily worse at making contact when needed, like no outs and a man at third. he can choke up and shorten his swing just like anyone else. but most of the time he he is not trying to put the ball in play weakly, he is trying to mash frozen ropes.
another factor is that better hitters see more pitches and get deeper into counts so they are more likely to K than a player who comes up there swinging at bad balls and hits weak grounders to the SS all the time.
the most productive players in the league are often the leaders in K as well.
ignore strikeouts. and batting average while you are at it.

a player with a literal zero batting average but a 500 OBP would be a spectacular leadoff man.
batting average is not relevant. it doesn't matter how you get on base, it only matters that you do, and that you have power. so for instance a player with a 177 batting average and a 490 OBP that smashes home runs is an MVP level player.
repeat, you don't need to care about batting average. only outs made and power.
