Hey Tiger fans - I was having a debate with other OSU fans about the ability of James Laurinaitis. I felt that often times you can gauge a player by the respect an opponent gives to them.

So with that said, what are your guy's opinion of the linebacker for OSU?

Not near as good as the media makes him out to be.

Would've made a solid backup on LSU's championship team

Actually, I think he is very good. Didn't he set a BCSNC game record for tackles? Laurinaitis is very good.

But he is overrated, IMO. Our DTs killed him when he was coming up in run support, but he needs to put on some weight and hit someone.

he doesnt seem like he plays as a traditional linebacker, so thats why he gets so many tackles

Did he play against us in the MNC?

I think that answers your question.

I remember Gholston making a few plays but no one else, especially the "vaunted" Jenkins, really stood out.

ETA: That being said, I would LOVE to be able to pair him up with Beckwith on the same collegiate field. I think he is a great collegiate LB.

He's better than the average fan gives him credit for, but not as good as some OSU fans think.

He only had 18 tackles in that game, so yeah.

If you watch the game, you might wonder how he got credit for that many tackles. Most were assists; he wasn't a gamechanger like RJF was, who had a lot less tackles.

And if he remembers Gholston making plays in that game, he'd be the only one. Most people (OSU fans included) know that Gholston was completely shut down.
