That seems like the only plausible reason that abomination was allowed to go on.

He was only here for 2 years. How the hell did Kelly let anything go on?

Why is this a post about Denver/New Orleans a shot at Matt House who is coaching in Jacksonville?

This isn't a rhetorical question. I haven't kept up with this and have no clue why this is a shot at House.

Man, it was obvious House was a shite head after the bowl game when Wingo snubbed him on the field post game.

I'd love to know exactly what went down and what lead to him being (seemingly) hated unanimously by players and staff.

Iirc announcers early in the year saying something like "the d line coach they had last year didn't really fit what coach Matt house wanted for his defense". That made me think then that House didn't want Cain back

Pretty obvious that Cain is saying LSU (Matt House) told him to hit the road. Now he’s up in CO doing well. Matt House was a total fraud and BK let him screw up a shot at a natty last year. I like BK but that is probably something he will kick himself over for a long time, as he should.

Love the Monday morning QB's. House did a decent enough job in 2022. They won the SEC West. Duh. Yes he sucked in 2023 but to say that Kelly should have known is just ridiculous. And he rectified the situation at the end of the season. What's ridiculous is there are tards on this site that are more upset with Kelly's 10-3 season than they were with O's 11-12 seasons. That's what's unbelievable.

And here y’all are acting like every snap he coached was terrible

He did ok when he had some experienced guys who could halfway handle his scheme in year one. But then he showed that he couldn’t be a difference maker in recruiting and he couldn’t get along with a coach who, while he sure as hell wasn’t Bo Davis, was still the best on that side of the ball at the time.

But worst of all, House showed absolutely no ability to adjust his scheme to fit what we had in year two. If you are going to run a complex, zone-heavy, read and react defense, you have to be able to teach it to young players and make it work. Brad White is successful in the SEC running a lot of the exact same concepts at UK because he can do that. And when House was forced to adjust late in the season (probably by Kelly), it was to the most vanilla, easy to figure out base zone scheme anyone’s ever seen. I’ve never seen a coach less capable of making adjustments beyond a couple of in-game wrinkles than Matt House. You just can’t be successful in college football only coaching one way.

There were a lot of rumblings in the background that he was forced out at the time.

Wingo and Garner laughing in the replies

I guess Wingo really was big-upping House after the bowl game.

He just beat Spencer Rattler.

Congrats Jamar, but STFU, be a professional, and move on.

We all thought he just left on his own, but after this tweet it sounds like House got rid of him.

There was some chatter that they didn't see eye-to-eye around the time that Cain left. I don't think it was as much House getting rid of him (especially given the timing), as much as the opportunity coming up and it probably being a mutual parting of ways.

I'm sorry but you can't convince me that House wasn't on the take last year. With the offense we had, there was a LOT of money to be made if you could sabotage the defense. He clearly did that. It seemed purposeful many times.

I think lots of coaches this year are struggling against us because the defense isn't just sitting in a base set and running the same thing each play. Not to mention the obvious halftime adjustments. No one sees that coming.

Watching our defense this year do creative things and at least TRY new things is glorious.

It is either he was on the take, or he is a functional retard.

Hindsight is 20-20, but there was nothing in House’s performance in 22 that would have warranted firing him at that time. It’s easy to say now after the disaster he put on the field in 23, but this happens sometimes. For example, look at Miles in 08 promoting 2 guys who wrecked what was a good defense in one offseason. It took two years for Chavis to get the defense back to what we expected. Hell, even Ohio St had the exact same issue promoting from within a few years ago. It took them two years to get back to being great on that side, too.

It’s easy to say we wish House had bombed in 22 so Kelly would have made the change sooner, but who knows how that would have worked out. As bad as last season was, I’ll take it because of the staff we have now. The same guys aren’t here if we make the change a year earlier.

If we keep these guys here a few seasons, this defense is going to be so fricking good. Their recruiting is off the charts and we can already see the impact of their coaching with the defense we have.
