I worked with the parent of and LSU pitcher who pitched on Skip's last championship team. She hated going to the home games because of the fans. If her son had a good game everyone would suck up to them and act like they were best friends. If he had a bad outing the fans were pretty much verbally abusive and disrespectful. This was in the stands, not on an internet website.

And this is the rant from Coach Leger that Mr. Slaughter was responding to:

“Social media is literally disgusting Bunch of never good enough, never was, and never will be bashing a 20 year old kid all while you pay out of your arse for private lessons in everything hoping your little Johnny could one day be that good and be a D1 athlete. Cleary you’ve never been there or had a kid who sniffed any real success or failure at that level otherwise you’d be sitting quiet and hoping for him and his parents he figures it out in time to help his team win a championship. And before you scream out put the other guy in you may want to read his stat line and bio. The best SS they have is out there. Im also gonna assume J. Johnson knows a hell of a lot more about baseball and his team than you do!
It also seems to be same dudes screaming to start a once in a generation pitcher who’s already worked on short rest the last few outings and thrown close to 120 pitches in his last three starts to pitch the game tonight. Y’all clowns cleary don’t care about either kid, their well being, or their future! ALL you care about is the outcome of the game and how it affects your ability to buy the $29.99 National Champions t-shirt from Walmart so you can walk around talking about WE WON! Newsflash partner YOU ain’t did shite!!! So how about you sit down, shut TF up and enjoy an evening of pulling for your team! Ohh and Go Tigers!!!! I will always pull for Louisiana over everyone!!
#RantOver”

I'm glad Mr. Slaughter reminded us LSU fans to show respect for players. Most of us get too emotional at times.

Not our fault your son can't slide into second base

And that's the point. Athletes get enormous undeserved credit for their successes. There is a downside to that. On Tre's big moment in the spotlight he came up with a golden play and cemented himself into Tiger lore. In Jake's big moment he blew it.

Tre will be revered forever, even though he blew his assignment. Jake will always be remembered for that one failure. It's not fair, but they would be lapping up the credit had it been opposite.

People completely forgot how bad his slide was in game 2.

so he can judge posters at their lowest point but we can't judge players at their lowest? just want to make sure i'm following the logic correctly.

I don't remember the hate being for Slaughter, it was more for the umps calling it the way they did

Nope. It was all on Slaughter. The umps could not possibly have called it any other way. Jake clearly went out of his way to interfere.

The play at the plate was a different matter. That was probably also a good call by the umps but a puzzling rule.

You don’t see a difference between a 45 year old couch potato making comments and a 21 year old athlete at the biggest stage of college baseball?

I think the moral of the story is we should be getting on this Jeremy guy. I mean he was a major travel ball coach and couldn’t teach his kids to slide properly?

Pay too much for that

i think its not good etiquete to publicly admit you're giving a shite about what people are posting on a message board when you're a relative of a high level player.

A) people are idiots, this is nothing new in any aspect of life.
B) anonymous message boards, people vent and post hot takes all day long. this is nothing new.

Social media didn't exist when I was young. Seems like it could be rough on sensitive people. Stay off of it if you have thin skin. I come here for humor and on occasion, insight!
