It felt like the last few years, we didn't even have guys that were very instinctual.

This will never be said about Tyrann.

Question: can instinct be coached?

How the Frick do you confuse Jack Hunt with Devery Henderson?

Yeah, I know Hunt used to wear 83 when he was a WR, but still.......

Some body help out a bro that doesn't understand those abbreviations. Not sure why you couldn't just spell out? Unless you were trying to hurry and beat someone else before they posted the same thing. Just tell me what it means please. Thanks

Additionally, it’s hard seeing former players seeing what the coaches cannot see.

No way in hell our coaches did not see that. They had what they had and were doomed to try and use it. The personnel had to change which is strange for me to say because I have been a follower of Kylin Jackson because is he is local to me and I know family. Will be interesting to me how he does in another venue.

I felt like we have not had a safety coach the last few yrs because the on field product was bad and the recruiting was/is weak.

Hunt was an instinctual safety and just played smart. I loved watching him play the position. I also think his contributions to the 2003 championship defense are often overlooked. He was not the most talented, but he understood Saban’s defense and seemed to be the proverbial quarterback in the defensive backfield. My memory is he didn’t play the one game we lost in 2003 (against Florida) and it showed. We gave up two long TD passes that game to a freshman QB named Chris Leak. I still think Hunt would have broken up at least one of them.

They felt he was even more lost. But like you said we will see how he does.

His comment of "They were in the wrong place ALL the time" immediately gave me flashbacks

Why the hell are they asking a wide receiver to give his opinion about a safety?

I don't believe that was his call.

That was the edited version to get Devery's name in there. In truth it took him a while to figure it out.

Never realized that. Makes since. After Green's punt return for TD, that game went to shite fast. 2003 should have went undefeated.

Actually the two TDs against Florida were both about 8 yards passes down the middle both to the FB who then ran about 20 yds for TD on both plays!

Just curious, are these abbreviations from the industry you work in or did you make them up? I follow football fairly closely and have never seen these used.

Jack Hunt was 8. Henderson was 9. Jim Hawthorne couldn’t see well by the early 2000s and he couldn’t make out the number of who caught the ball. He looked over to his spotter who was jumping up and down and pointing at the roster. Hawthorne thought he was pointing at 8 and not 9. He read the wrong name, and in the excitement of the situation, he didn’t consider that Hunt was white and played defense. That’s the true story from two people who were there.
