During a stoppage in play in the 2nd half, after the 50th foul called, the announcer mentioned that Smart was mixing it up with the UH point guard. As the ref was setting up for the FT attempts, Sampson wanted a word with his point guard. And since Sampson was on the court, Smart stood right next to the point guard, essentially receiving the same instructions. Sampson gave him the stink eye, and Smart just stood his ground.

That's the cat we need running the show.

Smart looks like he's figuring it out really well here now. He may end up being the guy we goto when we need a basket. He may also end up being the leader on the floor. Last night showed we don't really have either of those established yet.

Agreed...to a point. He had a great first half, but then became more concerned with shite talking than playing smart basketball and basically crapped the bed the second half.

Has unlimited potential, but just needs to control his emotions better and put together an entire game. Hopefully this will start to happen.

Needed him to slash during UH's run. If he scores, fine. If he draws a foul, it at least calms the crowd.

But what do we do - jack up a NBA 3.

He actually plays like he gives a shite. I'll take it instead of watching Reid loaf around with his head up his arse

Looked like the young guys got overwhelmed with the intensity, physicality and the environment in the 2nd half.

I could do without the muscle flexing 3 minutes into the game.

Yes, I actually thought that exchange with him, their pg and coach was hilarious lol. I wish Wade would consider just locking up guys like Smart from the state of Louisiana who actually give a shite about representing LSU.

I agree. What Smart doesn't understand is that the refs see him do that and anytime there is a bang bang play where the ref has to make a call, Smart will get the foul every time. It's dumb for him to flex like that. I guarantee you he won't do it anymore because coach Wade will tell him to bottle up his emotions and stay focused. He will learn.

any of ya'll think that Waters is trying to win the game late and do it all himself? Seems like he could be penetrating and dishing for the open 3.

I think he got used to having to do so much last year and he's having trouble figuring out how to distribute and actually play point with talent.

One of the biggest plays of the game was late when we were down 4, Smart drove to the basket, got hammered, no call and we lost the ball.
Pissed me off to no end because right before that we got called for a foul with a guy standing straight with his arms up. Refs were bad both ways but those 2 plays were a 4 pt swing by themselves. Refs sucked.

Smart has Alpha Dog in him. He will continue to get better.

At this point J Smart is no doubt the best player on the team. He is decisive, makes good decisions, and has a high basketball IQ. If not for him this team's average basketball IQ would be in the shitter.

Smart needs to be the primary PG and Tremont needs to embrace that the ball doesn't always go through him anymore. We have options unlike last year.

And I have no idea what Naz is doing. As they said on the radio "Naz is allergic to defense and still got in foul trouble against Houston" Stop taking so many 3s!! Go post up.

I like that type of swag too.

Smart started second guessing himself in the 2nd half though. He was slashing down the stretch in the 1st half. Then, he just stopped.

He's the type of player that has size and can draw plenty of fouls driving to the hole, especially in a very physical game like Wednesday night.

I tend to agree. But for a team that doesn't exactly run a fluid, principled offense, that's probably the kind of player you need.

LSU's offense is essentially: set a ball screen and someone make a play on their own. It's not like there are a ton of screens away from the ball or guys moving without the ball. Smart would be selfishly out of sorts on a team like Michigan or Notre Dame. But on this team, his play is fine
