These are paid numbers for LSU, not actual (Arky does the same thing, but many do not). Actual attendance numbers are not even close to this (similar to football where 1/3 of the stadium is empty for non-conference games when they are announcing 90k+ in attendance). I would not be surprised if MS State has the lead in actual attendance numbers.

Well there are conflicting stories about the origin but some say it is because for some reason they sang it during a game they were losing and after they sung the song they came back and won. (sound familiar Rally Possum?) And apparently it stuck and became tradition.
