He’s getting top half of the SEC pay. Elko will be getting paid on par with the top group in the SEC this year or next. Freeze and Billy haven’t gotten raises because they have actually sucked. Stoops has followed up his raise by falling on his arse. Drink hasn’t exactly backed his up, either. But this is life in the fast lane.

Kelly has to do better and earn it, but this isn’t elite pay. It’s the pay anyone who takes this job will get in the future. There will never be another bargain bin DiNardo or O hire. Period. Joe Alleva is long gone.

He’s what he’s always been. , win 9-10 games a year not no national championship.

I'll repeat again. Had no issue with bringing him in on a 4-5 year deal to get the program on track, but 10 year deal was absolutely insane.

I would love to know the percentage of games since he has been at LSU in which he has had to address special teams problems in the post game. It’s gotta be above 50% right?

list all the games since firing Polian that special teams has been a killer.

You mean like last night when we blew 3 field goals that would have made it a one score game where Nuss didn't have to press so much? And constant short fields for ATM because our punter kicks it 30 yards?

It was a big problem last night. 6-9 points more makes the end of the game look a little different. That botched FG snap also handed A&M great field position AGAIN.

Todd needs to be replaced from all duties.

If he is not earning what he is being paid, then he is overpaid.

I agree that a 4 to 5 year deal with CBK would have been acceptable . 10 years guaranteed is nuts . If he said “ NO “ then get a placeholder guy for a couple years . You may be surprised . Remember Willy Fritz ?

Lots of posters here are happy with mediocrity. “Next Year U” needs to stop, and we need to at least expect to make a 12-team play-off every year. That’s a low bar.

Agreed, absolutely insane plus a massive buyout .
If he wanted the job bad enough he would have taken a lesser deal.

I understood in year 1 and year 2 but now it’s getting silly. Let’s call it how it is. He’s a 9-3 coach

People on this board will defend what they have been defending and show up anytime a player they don’t like does something wrong. This board isn’t a reflection of real life. Hell I even do it to get under peoples skin. This shite is entertainment to be honest.

That’s just not how coaching pay works. Unless you are an unknown as a top P5 coach like Sun Belt Billy or Elko (who’s likely about to get a bump), you get paid based on the stature of your program. Or you stay where you are and get raises for your highest level of success.

Is Mark Stoops overpaid? Is Drink overpaid? Is Dabo overpaid relative to current results? Is Norvell overpaid with this season factored in with his first two? How about Riley based on his performance so far at USC? Is James Franklin overpaid? All are above or just below Kelly.

All of these coaches have had similar issues and flaws and only one has won or accomplished anything where he is today. There’s only one guy being paid less who has proven anything and that’s Dan Lanning, and he likely gets a bump after this season.

Kelly is getting paid what any head coach at LSU is going to get paid to come here, no matter how they perform. That’s just how it is. I’m sorry you don’t like it, but there’s no sliding scale for yearly performance in college football.

This is not a defense of Kelly’s coaching. He deserves criticism for the problems this team has. But what a coach is being paid isn’t a factor. That’s just table stakes today and it isn’t a concern for an athletic dept if a coach isn’t having .500 or worse seasons with fans no longer coming to games.

I’m not talking results. I’m talking about when they were hired. They were both bargain hires of convenience because of weak ADs- one who didn’t want to spend and another who didn’t want to do a real search.

His ability to give games away that we’re in position to win has been incredibly frustrating.

I agree.

How many games is that though?

Three in three years?

It sucks that two were this year, but I’m not sure which game they lost last year that was given away.

That being said, even Saban gave away some games away.

It sucks, but it happens.

bullshite you didn’t need a 10 year 10 mil contract to lure a good coach. It was an asinine contract unless he is NS or Kirby Smart who ALREADY built an elite program

He pissed away 2 years of recruiting, leaving us deficient on both lines of scrimmage in year 3. Inexcusable.

The only thing elite about Brian Kelly is his salary & buyout!

Interesting that the reason given that he did not win a Championship at Notre Dame was because of the academic standards at Notre dame.

He succeeds a National Championship Coach at LSU. Three years later the New HC at Notre Dame has them ranked higher than LSU.
