O needs to prove he can develop a program that consistently competes with Alabama. I think he will, but he hasn't done that yet.

I’m sick and tired of people in the media downplaying the LSU football program by calling this season “lightning in a bottle”. I’ve heard this from at least three national reporters.

I knew this was coming. Many of us did. It will be the new media narrative during the offseason. When we don't win the SEC next year and don't make it back to the CFP, because we probably won't, all we will hear is that we are a one-hit wonder like Auburn was in 2010.

This is a very good point. I also think that benchmark (as long as Saban is there) is a high mountain to climb.

I would like to see Coach O build this program where we are winning 10+ games (regular season) every year. We haven't even done that yet as this is the first year to do that under O.

Anyone else named OC in 2018 would have been too egotistical to let a 30yr old come aboard in 2019 and change the offense after 1 year.

devil’s advocate:
a different OC in 2018 may not have needed a Brady type hire for 2019.

I think some of them are using that term as a way to signify the magnitude of this team’s accomplishments without constantly reiterating stats. In that sense it’s not a knock, it’s the truth. We could continue to produce championship caliber teams for the next 20 seasons and still not match or surpass the level of domination displayed by the 2019 team.

But, yeah, there are also those who seem to be referring to the entire 15-0 outcome as a fluke predicated on astronomically good luck. I can brush those off because they come off as lacking in objectivity, and even IF there was substance to it then only time would prove that anyway. Considering the level of attrition, I don’t think anybody would say that back-to-back championships are an automatic, but based on recruiting and record it’s realistic to expect LSU to at least stay in the hunt for the foreseeable future.

The best way to put this to bed is to reload and dominate again. Just win baby! Winning cures EVERYTHING!

This is the only answer. Come back next year and be a playoff contender and shove it right up their asses. You don't have to win every season, but still being in playoff contention in the month of November shuts those frickers up right quick.

When you go from 6 years of 3+ losses to the greatest team of all-time, it's lightening in a bottle. Everything came together just right and it couldn't have been predicted.

The only way to argue that it's not, is for LSU to have a couple similar season in the next 5.

Solid and very detailed post. If it wasn’t so detailed I wouldn’t have bothered but you seem to be striving for accuracy, so Jefferson and Harris were not “100% O recruits”.

Also, you missed Lewis who was strictly recruited under Orgeron in 18

Maybe add the asterisk instead for those that actually committed under Miles, such as CEH, Stevens, Deculus, Shelvin, Vincent, Ingram, Charles, Queen, Farrell, etc

No one knows how the next few years play out. For people to say it's a one-up exhibits trolling. Will Coach O be a Jimbo Fisher or Kevin Sumlin, or a Nick Saban, Urban Meyer or Dabo Swiney? Only time will tell. I hope Coach O surpasses them all.

It isn't lightning in a bottle, we have been top 10 for 20 years. But we will never see Burrow like throws again. Ever. That was ridiculous and will never be repeated. I dont care about losing Brady or Aranda. Brennan could be the second best QB we have ever had and still throw for 15% less completion rate and 20 fewer touchdowns.

That’s literally the definition of lightning in a bottle.
