I’m sick and tired of people in the media downplaying the LSU football program by calling this season “lightning in a bottle”. I’ve heard this from at least three national reporters.

Everything was the same as the 2018 season except for the addition of Joe Brady. All the talent had already been there. All of the coaches had already been there. The only difference between this season and last season is a change in offensive philosophy that everyone who’s followed LSU football knows has been a long time coming and would be the one key to getting the Tigers back on top. And we were all right.

The bottom line is that calling this season “lightning in a bottle” is ignorant and disrespectful to the program. It wasn’t a fluke. It was exactly what we all thought could happen at LSU. And it did.

Agreed 100%. I've noticed the same thing being said. Ridiculous

I agree. They are downplaying the season basically saying it was lucky.

That's pretty much false

Almost every offensive player from 2018 that played in 2019 improved on an individual basis. It wasn't just the scheme.

Are they saying winning a title was lightning in a bottle or basically having the best offense in history was lightning in a bottle? Because we did a lot of shite that’s never been done before by anyone let alone LSU. In a sense that is lightning in a bottle.

The Media has had a hardon for this LSU football team the whole season...they've downplayed LSU every chance they've gotten..they were just about picking every opponent for an upset every week, just hoping to ante up ohio state or Clemson...Bama ruined it by losing to Auburn and not setting up the rematch against LSU in the CFP..now that LSU has won the National championship they are still dogging this program as a " one hit wonder" or "Lightning in a bottle" type of season..and will continue to push their narrative till next season..but LSU are still National champs..cant ever take that away..frick the media...

They doubted us before 2018
They doubted us at every turn this season

Some will never simply admit that Ed is a good coach who knows what he is doing.

ETA just embrace the hate and enjoy the GOAT college football season.

Hard to call it lightning in a bottle when we went from 9-4 to 10-3 to 15-0, when we havent had a losing season in 20 years and when we have been recruiting like we have. Obviously I think we take a bit of a step back next year (10-2 IMHO) but we’re not going anywhere

It’s not false. Players improving from year to year is pretty much a given on every team in the country. The scheme is what put this team over the top and resulted in the season they had. If you disagree with that, you’re just trying to be some contrarian dick.

I think you’re making the same point he is, though. Individual improvement happens every year.

Also.. posted this in another thread last night:

Let’s take a look at this year’s starting players who were recruited under Orgeron (bold).

LT Charles*
LG Magee
C Cushenberry
RG Lewis
RT Deculus*
TE Moss
WR1 Chase
WR2 Marshall
WR3 Jefferson*
QB Burrow
RB Edwards-Helaire*

OLB Clark
DE Logan (Secondary recruiter)
NT Shelvin*
DE Lawrence (Secondary recruiter)
OLB Chaisson*
MLB Queen*
MLB Phillips*

CB Fulton
FS Delpit*
SS Stevens*
CB Stingley

NB Vincent*

The ones marked with a * were part of our 2017 class, which was ranked #7 nationally (247). (Yes, Miles was still here when a lot of these guys committed but Orgeron was the recruiting coordinator, and he had to re-recruit quite a few of them once Miles left as well. Chaisson, Jefferson, Phillips, and Todd Harris were 100% Orgeron recruits.) Now consider that our 2019 and 2020 classes were both ranked #5 nationally. We might be down next year, given the historic nature of this season, but the future is very bright.

Now let’s look at coaching staff hired under Orgeron:

AHC/DC Aranda
OC/QB Ensminger (Promoted)
PGC/WR Brady
AHC/RB/RC Robinson
S Busch
OL Cregg
DL Johnson
WR Joseph
ST McMahon

DB Raymond

I can’t understand how people can think he just lucked into the greatest LSU season of all time. Yeah, Orgeron might have caught lightning in a bottle. But he built the bottle, the kite, the key, and the clouds.

Commentators have to come up with something to say so don't get all puckered up about it. Time will tell where the program truly stands.

The best way to put this to bed is to reload and dominate again. Just win baby! Winning cures EVERYTHING!

It isn't lightning in a bottle, we have been top 10 for 20 years. But we will never see Burrow like throws again. Ever. That was ridiculous and will never be repeated. I dont care about losing Brady or Aranda. Brennan could be the second best QB we have ever had and still throw for 15% less completion rate and 20 fewer touchdowns.

You’re right. Let’s just destroy every friggin thread on Tiger Droppings and put a banner up on the entire page that says 2019 national champions. That way we don’t have to talk about anything.

It's simple really... put in the work, show up and ball out next season. No need for any false motivation because we aren't Clemson.

The only thing we've been missing for a decade was a modern offensive scheme. We've always had the players. It was obvious to everyone except Les Miles. Those days are ova.
