2020 - free year
2021 - redshirt
2022 - RS fresh
2023 - RS soph
2024 - RS junior
2025 - RS senior

So still one more year left and then those numbers should start going down. You'll probably still have some after because of medical redshirts, etc but it shouldn't be as many as there has been

This is the last year for non-redshirt covid year athletes. Meaning they were true freshman in the 2020 football season.

Next year will be the last year of standard redshirt covid year athletes. Meaning freshman in 2020 that took a redshift at some point in their career.

But this doesn't account for academic and medical redshirts. So you could 2020 freshman playing in 2026-2028 depending on the weirdness of ncaa waivers.
Yep, you said it all.

Although Emery was 2019, with covid and a medical redshirt, he can come back for his 7th season in 2025 if he chooses. If i were him, I'd hang it up and get into coaching though.

Looking at the roster, I think CJ Daniels and John Emery are the only LSU players who were around in 2020 and could return next year. Daniels had a “redshirt” year in 2022 due to injury. Emery could presumably apply for a medical waiver this year.
CJ Daniels doesn't have anymore time. He's played 11+ games 5 straight years. If he wanted to redshirt to play next year, he would have done it after the South Carolina game.

Can't wait until this BS washes out of the college game. It was an understandable decision in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. But it's been crushing for the HS recruits for four years and watered down the game.
It’s actually made the game better IMO. Guys who had shitty situations were able to transfer after 3 years and still start for 2 years at another school and improve themselves for an NFL career, or just starting a 5th year at your own school. This has legit been some of the best players in the country producing some damn good teams

Kenny Pickett
Hendon Hooker
Jayden Daniels
Michael Penix Jr
Bo Nix
Cam Ward

LSU wouldn't have Lacy or CJ Daniels if not for this

Yeah, it's awful.

His body just fell apart. He had one drive against Houston in '22 when Pratt was out. He was named the starter and could have taken the job for good.

He drove the team down the field on the opening possession and on third and goal he lowered his shoulder into a DB. Tore the same labrum he previously tore the year before.

Then last year in the bowl game, he literally runs one play and tears his entire knee up.

His LSU bio says he only played 4 games in 2022 due to injury.

2020 - 11 games (doesn’t count)
2021 - 13 games
2022 - 4 games (redshirt)
2023 - 14 games
2024 - TBD

Unless I’m missing something, he would have another year after 2024.

if you were a freshmen in 2020 you are in your last year of fully healthy participation.

Next year will be the last year those freshmen can play if they also redshirted another season.

Then I think you can do 2 years of medical redshirts so the year after that we’re done with 2020 players… maybe

If Emery gets a medical redshirt and returns next season, he will be a 7th year Civid Athlete.

I suspect he's probably done with football but that's just my opinion. He had one of the strangest college careers I can recall.

Okay, yeah, you're right. Im guessing that's why he's not tripping on his numbers right now. Looking at it LSU should bring back everybody but Lacy. I mean Anderson could go, but would he? Hilton could leave if he comes in at Ole Miss and averages 50+ yards a game for the next 7 or more games, but i don't think he would.

However, i also feel like Nuss plays a huge part in this too. Nuss is on pace for 4300 yards and 39 TDs in 13 games. Even if the uptick in rushing from Caden pushes his passing down, i still think there is a definite chance he finishes with 3700 and 35 TDs. Does he leave now? I think LSU producing back to back elite QB prospects, his numbers and arm, and his family football acumen, would place him up higher than say a Carson Beck. Im guessing Ewers, Sanders, Milroe, Ward, and Dart are the top guys outside of Nuss with guys like Klubnik, Allar, and Moss would be the next batch if they decide to leave.

Now that i look at it, this might be a stronger draft class than initally believed. Looking at the NFL only four games in , Dolphins will possibly take a QB, NYG will unless Danny Dimes proves himself. Raiders definitely will, the Titans might, the Jets need to, the Browns should and likely will, the Panthers definitely will, the Saints could possibly, the Seahawks should and the Rams should. If we're going by the shoulds and definites, that's 5, and i want to say the Giants should, making it 6. I don't see 6 guys going in the first round again.

Does Nuss stay despite losing 4 starting OL? Does Anderson or Daniels stay if Nuss leaves? Do they chance it? I think Caden Durham and Chris Hilton steal receptions once Hilton is finally in play, and Durham is as lethal as he is, and starting. I think Mason Taylor should go though. He's on pace for 730 yards in 13 games which would have placed him 2nd among all TEs last year and 9th among all TEs over the past 4 years. He could legit finish as the Mackey award winner this year
