I think for a game to truly be a BIG game historically, it's going to have to be a very good close game, with neither team giving anything to the other and each having to earn it.
It's kind of two different questions: the legacy of the game and the game itself. I agree it could be just a footnote if we win big, but it is what it is. A top 3 matchup the last week of season with tons of division, conference, and national title implications.

Beating a 2 loss team is a huge accomplishment?
At the time, yes.

This game has much bigger implications than that game. There isn't really any logical way to debate it.
Would be more drugs then logic to deny this!

1995 Auburn. Troy Twillie int in endzone.
1997 Florida. Beat #1 for first time
2003 GA. Skylar Green TD puts LSU on way to title.
All worthy games for sure but to imply the implications were what they are Fri is simply foolish or own personal reasons!
This game is it! All on the line! Comeon!!

No. We are an established program. Lose this game, we maybe lose the 2011 MNC, but we are a Top 5 program no doubt.

Yep it's frickin Arkansas:
2001- @ LSU - 41-38 LSU
2002- @ Arky- 21-20 Hogs
2003- @ LSU - 55-24 LSU
2004- @ Arky- 43-14 LSU
2005- @ LSU - 19-17 LSU
2006- @ Arky- 31-26 LSU
2007- @ LSU - 50-48 Hogs (OT)
2008- @ Arky- 31-30 Hogs
2009- @ LSU - 33-30 LSU (OT)
2010- @ Arky- 31-23 Hogs
This game is and has been a tight and great game regardless of who's number one, three or even unranked. I love the dismissal of it's importance for your program. If you win you go to the SEC championship game, you lose your great season goes down the drain more than likely. It's a huge game maybe not your biggest, I certainly understand that.

Based upon what you stated, 1 vs 3, last game of the season, SEC and National Title implications and 12-0 on the line yes.
But I would add that winning this game allows us to continue to our goals of SEC and National Title wins. This would essential make us the best program since the turn of the century with 3 Crystal Balls. It would do so much for the long term sustainability of our program and coach. This can help cements Miles as the best big game coach in College football.
Losing this game essentially hands Bama and Nick Saban
another national title, 2 of 3, and in the medias eyes makes Nick and Bama the "it" program moving forward.
We need this more than they do. Remember , Miami, Fla State and Fla were not national powers until ther runs in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. This helps cements our run. Lose and we are still a great program but win and potentially we are creating our position as an eternal elite program.
1958-1973 is what put LSU football on the map. The last 15 years have now put us back on that National Power map. 1995-2010 is very similar except we have two losing seasons in this era but two national titles. If Miles wins another one it will do more for the long term status of the program and his stature amongst the coaching ranks.
The Two Golden Eras of LSU Football: 1958-1973 & 1995-2010

Yep. This could be an all time great team.

If you are just going for big game in relation to where you are as a program, three games come to mind.
1995 Auburn. Troy Twillie int in endzone.
1997 Florida. Beat #1 for first time
2003 GA. Skylar Green TD puts LSU on way to title.
This. Didnt read the whole thread but these 3 games are the 3 biggest games for the modern lsu program. 95 got the fans believing again. 97 instilled the fact that we could beat anyone. In most minds at the time Charlie Mac was still fresh as the "good ole days" and even then we couldnt beat bama. 03 finished it off as we had "arrived" as a serious national title contender.
Now I think its fair to say that this game has the most implications for any individual season. However if we lose friday we will still be an elite program that everyone knows as "the man you have to beat". If we had lost any of those previous games it could have set the program back both in LSU fans' and national talking heads minds.

This is a shot at this team to make it to Atlanta, and hopefully a title. This is a time for this team to be the greatest team in LSU history, and maybe one of the best college teams to play.
To come this far and lose? You CANNOT just toss that aside. We've gone 11-0, and to lose not just our title hopes, but the division itself is a JOKE
I can't beileve people are saying that it's no big deal! Going 11-0 is not just a flick of the wrist, certainly when you have the schedule we had.
This is the biggest game. Everything is at stake.
