I have a hard back copy. It just okay. He does a lot of talking about himself. Many of the LSU stories are good.

Most who don't like the book read it with the expectation that it's about LSU football. It's not. There are great vignettes about LSU football and south Louisiana in the book, but it's about the author, his struggles after football, etc.
I enjoyed it very much.

I agree with many of you that it was a poor read. He probably devoted 20 pages talking about the cyst on his chest, and another 20 pages about the chick he was banging in Opelousas. Only good part was about the conversation with Chollie Mac on his death bed, which had been printed in an article from Sports Ilustrated.

I have a signed hard copy of the book if you want to buy it?

How much?; both of y'all?

Just know what it is before you read it, and don't get your expectations too high. I bought it and read it thinking it was a book about LSU football. I was disappointed. To me it was about a guy whose life peaked at age 21 or 22, and he never could find anything else meaningful in life.

I agree with Sammy. It was depressing as shite. I read it in about 2 or 3 days and it took me that long to get out of the miserable mindset that envelopes you from reading it.

I read it... I thought it was alright but not spectacular and makes John Ed out to be a huge pussy.

This.
I give it a "Meh+" with the descriptions of 70s LSU football being the only thing to keep it from being a "Meh."
Extremely underwhelmed.
Mark Kreigel's "Pistol" is probably the best LSU book I've read.

Book with the title "History of LSU: 1958-2007 Champions Reborn" or something like that. Just a few pictures, and it's really cool.

I have it in hardback. sucks for you

I have it in hard back and thought the book was really good. John Ed did a good job of capturing the mourning and loss that leaving football behind can create. For some that have played, loved, and lived the sport, it can be as important to you as a loved one and become in part what defines you as a person.

I might find time to read his story. I often wondered what it was like to be an athelete at a big time football program. I guess the "high" is often followed by a let down that is sure to come after the limelight is gone.

I enjoyed the book but i did read it some time ago... I know it isn't like it has been out ten years.
Imagine you play college football today for a major program... you're one hell of a college player but not destined for the NFL. For four to five years, you have been surrounded by 120 friends that would die for you. Women want you and men want to be you.
You graduate and ...you're nothing. Your thousands-strong support group is no where to be found. And you don't want to be the ex-player at the saturday tailgate.
To some degree, that is 'it never rains in tiger stadium.'
College football has numerous tales of players having it all, and it slipping away - not john ed's story.

I'll give it to you for $25. Only because it's signed. Practically brand new. Let me know.

From what I understand this is the best LSU book out.
Nah. It was about John's inability to deal with life and become a man.
Putting "Tiger Stadium" in the title just got us all to buy it.

It really is a bad book. The only good part of the book was the title.

I also thought the book was a downer. I have a hardcopy of it, but probably won't ever read it again.
