For the 98136th time, he’s chilling with no pressure until 2027

Point being…if you’re gonna do it, do it. Yes, the contract sucks and Woody should also get canned for that, but $60 million vs $51 million are not that different at the end of the day and it could save us from torpedoing. We just saved $6 million by Underwood going to Michigan. Let’s spin zone this into a positive

LSU can't afford 60

LSU can't afford 51

LSU can't afford 42

LSU can't afford 33

LSU probably can't afford 24

Kelly is going to be here a while.

Rank Coach College Total Compensation

2 Dabo Swinney Clemson $11.5 million
3 Lincoln Riley USC $11 million
4 Steve Sarkisian Texas $10.3 million
5 Kalen DeBoer Alabama $10 million
6 Mike Norvell Florida State $9.8 million
T-7 Brian Kelly LSU $9.5 million
T-7 Ryan Day Ohio State $9.5 million
T-9 Lane Kiffin Ole Miss $9 million
T-9 Josh Heupel Tennessee $9 million
T-9 Mark Stoops Kentucky $9 million
12 James Franklin Penn State $8.5 million
13 Brent Venables Oklahoma $8.2 million
14 Mario Cristobal Miami $8 million
15 Mike Gundy Oklahoma State $7.75 million

Kirby and Dabo are certainly more accomplished than BK. After them, it's all uninspiring, But do any of these deserve a 7-year contract? Because that's where stand with BK?

Remember, whenever we talk about firing a coach, there are 3 different costs:

1. You have to pay the buyout
2. You have to pay for a whole new coaching staff
3. You can’t pay for players with the money spent on (1) and (2)

1 and 2 are paid by .... the university, right?
3 is paid by ... boosters, right?

University CAN NOT pay NIL, and CAN NOT pay players.

so it's 2 different groups of people paying for these things.

The university that pays CBK gets $40 million every year from the conference.

LSU has received TWICE CBK's current buyout from the SEC since the day he landed in BR.

CBK been here 3 years. 3 times $40 Million is $120 million. CBK buyout is $60 Million.

NONE of that money has anything to do with money paid to players in NIL deals.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't recall where I read this, though it's probably not hard to find, but I read the other day that LSU finishes its monthly installment payments on O's buyout in December 2025.
So we stretched $17m over 48 months? But his obligation was over at the end of 2023? It is pretty silly to point out then isn't it?

Dude every other recruit seems to still be headed to BR and you want to can this man? Jesus stop watching for the sake of you and everyone around you.

Yes, but unless we’re assuming LSU has $60M on hand to fire Kelly plus several million more to hire a new staff, it’s a distinction without a difference. If the university has to go to its boosters to finance firing a coach then it might as well ask those boosters to finance roster improvements instead, unless the coaching staff is completely cooked.

If it came down to 10 million they'd make the move...but it comes down to 30 million or more before the buyout is feasible. BK is here to stay for at least 2 more full seasons. Thanks Woody.

Exactly some of these people are just dumb as hell! Why would anyone sign a contract that says there’s no guarantee you won’t be fired !

Firing Brian Kelly would be detrimental to the program. He hired the best defensive staff in the country this past off season. He has an elite class about to come in.

LSU has $60M on hand. Not saying they will spend it to buy out CBK, or even that they should.

But, LSU could do it if they wanted to. Without help from the boosters.

Who says we can afford it next year while having enough for Woodward to over pay the next failure? How could anyone trust Woodward to make the next decision? That 6mil needs to be spent on a C, 2 guards, 2 tackles, safeties, WR, and a real OC. And a QB. Oh yeah, and a punter and a long snapper. Makes you wonder why we aren’t developing any talent that has been here in his almost 3 years.
